Pentacost Prayer: Welcome the Spirit
Loving God, allow us to understand that the Holy Spirit lives deep in each of us. It reminds us that we are special and that you love us. May we experience the peace that is offered by acknowledging the Holy Spirit, and let it guide us each day. Amen.
From Mr Will
Dear Community Members,
What a week at Holy Spirit! Confirmation, carnivals, excursions let’s jump straight in.
Confirmation:
What a special day for our Year 6 students on Sunday. After many months of preparation our Confirmation was celebrated by Father Emmanuel on Sunday at 9:30am. It was such a special celebration, with the 9:30am choir providing the music, our students leading readings and Father explaining the special connection with Pentecost. Following Mass, we gathered in the hall for a morning tea, which went off superbly, despite a slight table malfunction, which resulted in a sliding cake! All was not lost, the cake miraculously (it may have been the Holy Spirit!) held together and was enjoyed by one and all. I would like to thank all those people who have helped and supported our students throughout their journey towards Confirmation, including Fr Emmanuel, Mr Colace, Mrs Sims, Miss Mottershead, Cathy Delattre and the Catechist team at the Parish.
Interschool Cross Country
Our young distance athletes met at Lake Gwelup Reserve yesterday for the Annual Interschool Cross Country Carnival and they just blew me away. I love Cross Country, there is just something about kids pushing themselves that makes me proud. We often speak about how to build resilience in our kids: Picture this; you have 500 metres left to run and your lungs and legs are burning, but you have someone right behind you, hot on your heels, and you need to keep pumping your legs. I would argue there is no better resilience lesson than that!
Interschool events are not all about silverware, but…. I am slightly competitive and the reward for our students hard work was realised as we took out the Boys and Girls division and the overall shield! Huge thanks to all the supporters on the day, cheering our kids on. Thanks to Ms Wise for her leadership of our Cross Country, all our teachers, our amazing kids and finally I must acknowledge the work of Mrs McNally for leading our training with our Running Club. HS for the win!!
Excursions
We have had so many excursions happening in the school and a few more coming up. Excursions are a great way to engage our students outside of the classroom and help them understand relevance in their learning. All our excursions link to a unit of work that is being taught in class and help to solidify concepts. In the last 3 weeks our Year 2 class has visited Brownes Dairy and the WA Museum. Our Year 5 class visited the State Library and WA Museum. The good news continues to spread; when our kids go out of the school, we have people write to us and explain how well behaved our students are. These types of letters that make you feel even prouder to be part of this great community.
Mid Term Break
With so much happening our upcoming Mid Term break is well timed. The extended long weekend,
with a Pupil Free Day on Friday (2nd June) and WA Day on Monday (5th June) gives an opportunity for your family to either get away from the city or just rest and relax at home. Please take the mid-term
break to recharge your batteries ready for the last few weeks of term as we approach Reports.
Tipping
I have been well and truly overtaken, and plenty of great tippers are hot on my heels in 2nd
place. Congratulations to the Haak family for winning last week’s round, a great effort with so many upsets. The WA teams seasons could not be more opposite, the Eagles have a long and mountainous road ahead of them. Freo are flying, but as any historian knows, they don’t tend to like September…. Geelong’s hopes of going back-to-back this year are failing fast, but any true supporter always has hope. A pro tip for anyone trying to catch me; I always tip Geelong, so if they keep losing, I will keep on dropping!
Until next time, be good to yourselves and look after each other,
Ben
Apple StorySchool Project
Mrs Sims, Mrs Martinovich, Miss Micale along with the Year 4 and Year 5 students are taking part in the Apple StorySchool project which runs from May to August.
Students have the opportunity to complete online learning sessions with other schools from across Australia and New Zealand. Along the way, the classes will get the opportunity to work alongside the famous author Tristian Bancks and use Apple technology to allow students to be more creative and compelling communicators.
We can't wait to see our students’ story telling skills develop over time.
