TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
VOL 6 ISSUE 17
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Please do not waste a moment of this Winter Break. Take advantage of every second to have quality alone time, to spend time with family and friends, travel and explore, or to do whatever makes you happy. I know some of you have to work, but hopefully get a few days off. I always find Winter Break a kind reminder of the perks of working in education; getting two weeks off is rare.
Thank you to the parents and students who made this week special for teachers, staff, and classes as a whole. Great team effort.
The campus is closed during Winter Break. Phone calls, emails, etc. will not be responded to, in most cases, until Monday, January 8th.
Be safe. Be kind. Happy Holidays.

THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Bradley
This week in Kindergarten students participated in a STEM rotation day! Students were able to apply what they learned about the physical properties of matter (size, color, texture, temperature and weight) as they completed hands on activities including painting with salt and glue, making oobleck, building gingerbread houses, making snow globes, and creating marshmallow snowflakes! Students were also able to observe the physical properties of matter as they participated in our annual kindergarten snowball toss! Students had a blast experimenting with the texture of snowballs made from cornstarch and shaving cream. Thank you to all who volunteered their time and energy and sent in donations!
FIRST
First grade students and teachers have had a fun filled week! We want to give a big shout out to our PVO and parent volunteers! Our staff holiday party was so much fun! I know the event would not have been possible without our parent donations and volunteer support! Thank you for the coffee cart on Thursday. It was a great pick me up to finish the week strong!
We also want to thank our OSES Board of Directors for all you do to make our school a wonderful place to work! Thank you Dr. Akin for advocating on our behalf to receive a December bonus! We appreciate all of you!
At the end of last week, first grade students went on their first field trip this school year, to Gatorland. They enjoyed two gator shows, feeding the animals at the petting zoo, viewing the Albino alligators, and exploring the park.
This week in 1st grade, the students learned about Holidays Around the World. They participated in a variety of Candy Cane Stem activities. They had an awesome STEM Day on Wednesday where they created the longest paper chain, made piper cleaner trees, used binary code to color pictures, and tried to muffle a bell with their friends in the Jingle Bell Challenge. Congratulations to Mrs. Vancol's class for having the longest paper chain at @ 885 inches. We finished the week completing more STEM activities and crafts.
From Ms. DiNuzzo~
I want to thank all of my class parents for their love and support throughout the school year! Thank you for all of the donations and presents I’ve received. I appreciate all of you!
I also want to give a shout out to Nathan W. He has received certificates for all Xtra Math programs – Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division! Nathan is a quick learner who enjoys math and is one of my first students in 1st grade to ever achieve this goal! Great job Nathan!
From all of us in 1st grade, Happy Holidays! We will see you next year! 2024!

SECOND
Coy
Happy Holidays from Ms. Coy’s class.
We have been learning about the types of energy in Science the past few weeks. One form of energy is sound. The students used straws to make pan flutes. We had to practice using rulers to measure the different lengths of the straws. We had to be able to notice how the straws went in order from largest to smallest. Everyone had a great time learning and understanding how sound energy works.
In ELA, we are learning about text features in non-fiction texts. The students worked in groups of 3-4 to complete their Text Features I Spy activity. We had to identify text features such as headings, photographs, captions, etc.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful break! See you in 2024!

THIRD
Gerstung
This week, 3rd grade was all about fun winter activities. We used our imaginations to write personal narratives about what life would be like if we lived in a snow globe. In reading we learned about different holidays around the world. We did a holiday book exchange where students gifted a classmate with a new book to read over the break. Students also had a blast making gingerbread houses, thank you to all the parents who helped make this possible. The week ended with pajama day and comparing and contrasting How the Grinch Stole Christmas, book to the movie. It was a week full of holiday fun. I wish everyone a nice and restful break from school. Happy Holidays! See you in the New Year!
Wullschleger
Borax snowflakes and Hot Cocoa Fun!
FOURTH
Parlewicz
This week in 4th grade we are studying countries from all around the world and what holidays they celebrate during the winter! Students are also analyzing poetry and using their skills to find deeper meaning to a broad variety of poems. As we get ready for the holidays, students in Ms. Blaske/Ms. Parlewicz’s class are competing to be the best table group! The group who participates the most, keeps the tidiest work area, and has the best behavior earns pieces to a snowman. Whichever group decorates their snowman with all the pieces first wins a mega prize! Students are working hard to be a team and keep each other accountable for their actions, and demonstrating all the ORCA core values!
FIFTH
Kaljulaid
Fifth graders have wrapped up module 5 in ELA. This week they participated in a read-a-thon, where they tested their reading stamina by reading for their entire ELA block (about 2 hours). I'm sure having the option to curl up in a blanket and relax on a pillow helped. Students also applied their knowledge of literary elements by graphing the plot, setting, and characters of movies. They did a wonderful job of continuing to end the quarter on a high note, and we can't wait to see what they accomplish in the new year! See you next year, 5th grade!
Saucedo
Our class learned about circuits and used them in a gingerbread house design STEM project.

SIXTH
World History- Rego
This week, students in Mr. Rego's presented their projects to end our unit on India. It was a great way to learn some more about the culture of different regions in India, as well as key figures and important sites. I was very impressed with the artwork of the Hindu gods that were submitted as well as the presentations. Below are some examples. Please also check out the bulletin board display on the second floor or building 2 for more examples. I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe winter break and I look forward to seeing all of my students next semester when we start our unit on ancient China.

To my next Spanish classes: I hope you enjoyed your time in Turkish class. I’m excited meet you all and be your Spanish teacher next semester.
I hope you all have a great and restful winter break. Happy holidays!
For the Spain trip you can add that there's still time to join. Thanks.
Turkish- Dilek
" Students in Turkish class this week , presented their end of year skits and sang Turkish songs outside . It was a ton of fun. "
ELA- Nemcik
In Mr. Nemcik's 6th grade ELA Class, students viewed the film "The Polar Express" and identified the elements of the plot. This includes the exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. To conclude, the students analyzed the conflict and theme of the film. This activity was a great way to conclude our most recent unit on literature.
