BUS SAFETY REMINDERS π
Bus Safety Week: from Transportation Coordinator Lex Enerson
When it comes to school bus safety, both students and parents/guardians can lead by example. Winter weather will be upon us shortly and slippery road conditions mean extra precautions. Below are tips for drivers and students that will ensure safe transportation to and from school.
Tips for Drivers to Remember:
When you see a school bus with the upper yellow lights flashing, please remember that indicates the bus is stopping at a student pick up or drop off location.
Flashing red lights are used when the bus is stopped. Help keep our students safe by stopping far back from school buses.
Keep children safe! NEVER attempt to drive around a bus with red flashing lights.
Tips for Students to Remember:
When waiting for the bus, stand back at least 20 feet from where the bus will stop. Wait for the driver to safety come to a complete stop, the red lights are on and the stop arm is out before walking closer.
While loading or unloading, refrain from horseplay and enter or exit the bus in a single file line, and never stoop down to retrieve a dropped item while the bus is stopped.
Do your part to ensure a safe ride home for everyone. Sit calmly in your seats, facing forward. Stay seated for the duration of the ride, and keep the noise down so the driver is able to hear both students and surroundings.
Tips for Parent Drop-off and Pick-up areas:
Each school has a bus loading zone and a separate parent drop-off/pick-up zone. Please become familiar with your childβs school building areas. Dropping off and picking up students in bus loading zones is strictly prohibited. Please contact your building principal with questions.

BRING US YOUR PLASTIC RECYCLING!!
Dassel-Cokato Schools has partnered with Trex Company in the NexTrex Recycling Challenge! Each school is being challenged to recycle 1,000 pounds of plastic recycling in the next 12 months. Upon meeting that goal, each school will receive a FREE TREX bench! Drop off your plastic recycling in any school building throughout the school year. Click the image for more details about what types of plastic are acceptable.
**Reminder - Softener Salt Bags are great to recycle and can add a lot of weight!**
