District Updates!
School Leadership & Innovation and Professional Learning are now accepting applications for the 2023-24 Aspiring Principal Academy (APA). This opportunity is designed for Plano ISD administrators interested in a campus principal position. This program will consist of in-person learning meetings and job-embedded experiences to help participants master multiple learning objectives related to campus leadership and key elements of PISD’s Leadership Framework, the district strategic plan, and the Principal Standards.
In order to support the goals and growth of our assistant principals, we are extending this opportunity to assistant principals who have completed at least one year in the role. Applicants should understand the commitment level of this program, which include meetings throughout the year, job embedded work, and homework assignments. Additionally, the 23-24 cohort will be a two-year commitment.
If interested, please complete the APA application linked above. All applications are due by May 19, 2023. Please note that applicant supervisors will be asked to complete a short feedback from. Applicants will be notified in early June.
If you have any questions about completing this application, please contact Ivan Cantu.
Are you interested in exploring the knowledge, skill sets, dispositions, and behaviors needed to thrive in specific environments? The Plano ISD Education Foundation and the Professional Learning Department are partnering to provide PISD secondary teachers, counselors, specialists, and librarians with an opportunity to work with skilled industry employees. Twenty-five PISD educators will be selected to work with a local for-profit or nonprofit organization to shadow one or multiple employees or work on a specific project. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on March 27. Click the button above to learn more and apply. If you have any questions, please contact Edna Phythian in Professional Learning.
Future Plano ISD graduates that aspire to be a teacher and get on-the-job training along with support for the cost of college can now apply for the Plano ISD QuESt program.
The Quality Education for Successful Teaching (QuEST) Career-Seeking Program is a pathway for Plano ISD Graduates to earn a college degree and teacher certification through our partnerships with Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) and the Alternative Certification Program Teachworthy. Plano ISD will cover the cost of tuition and books with IWU for the Bachelor of Science degree in Integrated Studies and pay the initial program costs to Teachworthy.
Candidates selected for the program will work in Plano ISD as a classroom assistant for two school years starting the fall after they graduate. During this time, they will complete the Plano ISD Core-30 and Teachworthy coursework. In their third year in the program, they will be eligible to apply for a teaching position as an Associate Teacher. As an Associate Teacher, they will lead their own classroom while they work to complete their degree with IWU. When their degree is conferred, they are eligible to be hired as a full-time teacher while completing the Teachworthy certification process.
Once they have their Standard Teaching Certificate, they are required to stay with Plano ISD for two more years.
Informational meetings will take place on each senior high school campus the week of April 17. Students must attend one to learn more!
The application linked above is available with a deadline of Sunday, May 7 at 11:59 P.M.
