Rāmere Friday 1st July Hōngongoi 2022 (T2: Week 9 of 10)
Our Tumuaki / Principal
- Kapahaka Group at Matariki 2022: What a wonderful day we had at the Waimumu Field Days for Matariki 2022 on Friday 24th of June. It was great seeing our kapa haka group on stage performing with such confidence. Their uniforms looked amazing. Thank you to the parents who brought them out and to Miss Kim Nicol and Miss Sanne den Boon for supporting them on the day. Click the link below to see them perform from our Facebook page.
- Gore and Districts Matariki Celebrations: It was great seeing so many students and past students at the Gore and Districts Matariki Celebration with a good number of them on the stage performing in bands or in the Menzies College Kapa Haka group. What a great day, topped off with an exciting fireworks show. Thanks for coming.
- Community of Learning Kahui Ako Professional Learning Opportunities: This week on Monday after school all the teaching staff and school leadership teams from across our seven Community of Learning schools joined together at Menzies College to learn more about the raft of changes that are coming through for education in the next few years. Then on Tuesday, a group of junior teachers and teacher assistants attended a workshop hosted here at Edendale Primary School to explore the importance of the development of oral language and phonological awareness (hearing and recognising sounds in words) for building the foundations of literacy learning for our junior students.
- On the Farm Poetry Anthology 2022: This week I began compiling together all the poems and illustrations as part of our 2022 bespoke Edendale Primary School book entitled On the Farm. Thank you to all those that contributed. It's going to be a great book.

Lost Property - Check it Out
Over the term, we collect up quite a variety of items and they come to our lost property rack and box. We'd love to have them returned to their owners.
If you recognise anything from the photo below, pop in or remind your child to check and collect it.
Our lost property is under the sheltered entrance to the staff room.
We recommend ensuring all items are clearly named, especially second hand items that often have names of previous owners in them.
Character Values Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L): Term Two Responsibility Haepapa
Responsibility means we own our actions towards our roles, activities and items for our own and other’s benefit and is shown through loyalty, duty, commitment, initiative, onus, ownership, contributions, trustworthiness and doing.
At Edendale Primary School respect is demonstrated when we...
Are ready for our learning.
Work right through from start to finish.
Care for people, property and places.
Look after our belongings.
Involve ourselves in our school whanau community.
Every time our values are shown they make our school a great place to be for children and adults.
Term One - Respect Manaakintanga
Term Three - Excellence Tohungatanga
Term Four - Integrity Ponotanga
Principal's Values Award
This week the Principal/Tumuaki would like to acknowledge Dariush Singh for showing our school values in class and at play.
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Kiwi
Team Kiwi is fortunate to have a role-model like Harrison Lang for Haepapa - Responsibility.
We know we can rely on Harry to be doing the right thing, in the right place, at the right time. He is consistent with his use of polite manners and with the kind way he speaks to his class-mates and teachers.
Harry is always organised and ready for his day of learning - he brings back his reading book each day, has his pencil case ready, unpacks his bag and gets his chair without any prompting. He takes good care of his belongings and shows responsibility and care when using any of the classroom equipment or games.
Harry also takes responsibility for his learning. He takes part in class activities, asks questions, and is prepared to do extra work to help with his progress - and that hard work is paying off with super results!
Harry, you are a valued member of Team Kiwi. Ka pai!
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Kereru
Team Kereru’s MVP for Haepapa-Reponsibility is Nixon Cripps.
Nixon comes to school every day with a positive attitude. He is polite and likes to discuss his kart-racing with his peers.
When Nixon is away, he tries to catch up on work or will still get his homework completed. This shows he is being responsible and prepared for learning.
Nixon is kind and gets along well with his peers. He is positive about working in a group with students that aren’t his close friends. Not only does Nixon get along well with others in the classroom, but he gets along with other students throughout the school as well.
Nixon is prepared for learning and will have the correct stationery in class. I can depend on Nixon to stay on task and not distract others when there is no teacher in the classroom.
It has been great seeing Nixon develop and become more confident in his learning. Keep up the awesome work Nixon!
