Having health insurance is critical for our children to thrive at school. There are free and low-cost health coverage options available through Medicaid and Hawki which include coverage for medical, dental, immunizations, prescriptions, mental health services and more. You can have a regular doctor for your child and be protected from unexpected accidents and illness. Many working families qualify; children and teens in a family of 4 earning up to $80,030 may qualify for Hawki. And don’t forget, if your child is already enrolled in these programs, it’s important to renew their coverage every year so they can get the care they need when they need it. The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) can assist with in-person application assistance for families with children through presumptive eligibility. This year's motto is family. An elementary assembly featured staff attempting to ride a mechanical bull as students cheered them on and supported teachers if they fell. That’s what the Clayton ridge family does; encourages one another during our ups and downs.

Welcome Exchange Student Jamilah Omar Hussein to Clayton Ridge. Jamie will be part of the Clayton Ridge family during the 2022-2023 school year and is staying with host family Neil and Carolyn Hofer. Traveling half way around the world, Jamie comes from the Village of Fuoni on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania, Africa. We are thrilled to welcome you!

I grew up about an hour south of Garnavillo in the country. I attended East Buchanan High school and then went on to attend Warburg College. There I got my Bachelors degree in Neuroscience. I started working at Starmont Elementary as a paraprofessional while looking for a job. There I found that I loved working with the students. It was amazing to watch when a student finally made a connection. You can see the pride and excitement on their face. While working at Starmont I attended William Penn University to get my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. This will be my first year teaching in the classroom. I am looking forward to meeting all of the students and their families! I want to my students to learn something new everyday and to have fun doing it. I really enjoy doing hands on projects along with the material given to us for class. This allows for students to make connections on their own and really enjoy learning new topics. I hope that my students find that learning happens when we least expect it.

My name is Janita Stavroplus, and I have resided in the Marquette/McGregor area for almost 17 years. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and four children, volunteering for community events, and venturing into the great outdoors. I am excited about the opportunity to teach 3rd-grade, one of my favorite age groups. I received a Bachelor of Science in education and have been a teacher in various capacities for more than 20 years.

Since my late elementary years, I have wanted to be a teacher. As a child, I would pretend to play school with neighborhood friends. Also, a few teachers along my educational path provided positive experiences and deserve the credit for being a guiding influence on what I enjoy doing today, teaching. Children are a joy to observe as they venture through their personal growth. As a teacher, I have a small part in their adventures as they explore the world’s playground and find it most rewarding when they have experienced success.

I am grateful to serve the Clayton Ridge School District as their third-grade teacher! I look forward to being a part of the Eagle’s school district and community.

My name is Mrs. Phillips and this will be my 11th year of teaching. I am excited to be joining Clayton Ridge Elementary School as a Special Education Teacher! I grew up in the town of Maquoketa and graduated from Maquoketa High School. I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Dubuque and am currently taking classes through Morningside University. Growing up I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher and to help kiddos. In the past 10 years I have taught second and third grade! This school year I am looking forward to meeting my students and the amazing staff!

Clayton Ridge Elementary School Counselor

Third grade has been fantastic so far. Everyone has a laptop and has been able to use it every day.

Yesterday was a great day! Students used their laptop to log in to their SeeSaw account. For fun, they were able to take a goofy picture of themselves and post it. We will be using SeeSaw for assignments this year, but this is a fun way to learn in the beginning.

The boys’ varsity team finished 2nd place at the ED-CO Cross on August 23, only beaten by a 4A school, Waterloo West. The team performed well, beating Alburnett, Beckman, Central Elkader, Dunkerton, Ed-Co, Kee High, MFL, Postville, South Winneshiek, Sumner Fredericksburg, Starmont, and Turkey Valley. The boys varsity team score consisted of times from Keaton Reimer, Gavin Moser, Erik Flores, Jackson Patiño, and Jesus Tabora-Laura. Major highlights of the meet for the boys were Keaton Reimer and Gavin Moser finishing in the top ten, which allowed them to medal in this meet. Keaton Reimer finished in 4th place, while Gavin Moser finished in 6th place overall. The major highlight for the girl’s varsity was Daisy Dickson finishing the meet with a time of 26:44. All athletes performed well and did a wonderful job for the first meet of the season!

The boys’ varsity Cross Country team finished 1st place at the Bulldog Invite Cross Country Meet held at the Tri-City Golf Club on September 1st. They celebrated this success along with several team members getting their best personal time of their high school career. One of these runners, Keaton Reimer, set the new school record of 17:03. The boys’ team score consisted of times from Keaton Reimer, Gavin Moser, Erik Flores, Jesus Tabora-Lara, and Jackson Patiño. As of now, they are ranked 16th in the state by the IATC. Major highlights of the meet were Keaton Reimer and Gavin Moser finishing in the top ten. Keaton Reimer placed and medaled in 2nd place with Gavin Moser finishing just behind in 3rd place. Another major highlight was Erik Flores finishing the race by passing four runners to help secure the win!

The girls did not have enough for a team this meet yet but are hoping to for the next one. A highlight for the girls was Alyssa Sadewasser fighting hard and finishing in 32nd place for the girls to achieve her personal best time as well. She was followed by Eleanor Dickson, Daisy Dickson, and Hailey Gaul.

The JV boys’ team placed second with Ethan Backes finishing in 8th place. The JV team consisted of Ethan Backes, Blake Ihde, Colton Hoeger, Kasey Thiese, and Leland Mueller.

The boys’ varsity Cross Country team finished 1st place at the Clayton Ridge Invitational held at the Guttenberg Golf Course on September 7th. The boys’ team score consisted of times from Keaton Reimer, Gavin Moser, Erik Flores, Jesus Jasper-Lara, and Jackson Patiño. Major highlights of the meet were Keaton Reimer getting first place overall in the meet. Gavin Moser also finished 3rd and medaled. Erik Flores just missed the podium, but still had a great finish in 12th place. As of now, they are ranked 7th in the state by the IATC. Overall, the boys did a great job and continue to work hard to improve as a team!

The middle school boys’ team placed 2nd and had two athletes reach the podium, thus finishing in the top ten. The two boys were Fernando Flores and Luke Cook. Fernando Flores received a 2nd place finish, and Luke Cook came in at 10th place. The team consisted of Fernando Flores, Luke Cook, Russell Chelmar, Tate Armstrong, and Evan Claycamp.

The girls’ varsity team placed 6th place. A highlight for the girls was Daisy Dickson finishing in 25th place. She was followed by Eleanor Dickson, Alyssa Sadewasser, Hailey Gaul, and Hinkley Simon. Middle school had only one female runner and it was Audrey Dickson who finished in 13thplace.

Fifth graders Jax Pierce and Kaeden Jameson were selected as the football kid captains for the first home varsity game.

Clayton Ridge Community School District has both a north and south campus. The northern campus is located in the midst of the rolling prairie of Garnavillo, Iowa and currently serves students in grades PK-5. The southern campus is situated among the picturesque Mississippi River bluffs and boasts a magnificent view of the mighty river and Lock & Dam 10 in Guttenberg, Iowa. The south campus serves middle school (6-8), and high school (9-12).
