This week, each of our buildings named their 2022-23 Building Teachers of the Year. This group of educators is outstanding. Being recognized is always appreciated. But being recognized by your peers is truly special. We have more information about each of them in this newsletter. We invite you to join us in congratulating them on this honor.

CGHS BPA students place in Top 10 at state
Twenty-six Center Grove High School Business Professionals of America (BPA) students competed in the organization's State Leadership Conference in Indianapolis this week. The students competed in a range of categories against schools from all over Indiana.
CGHS student Manas "Belle" Kamath was elected as President of BPA Region 11 for next year. Kamath has provided outstanding leadership to the CGHS team. Read more.
Two Center Grove teachers named Jacobs Educators
Two Center Grove teachers are among the select few from around the country named 2023 Indiana University Jacobs Educators. Erin Brown, 5th Grade teacher at Sugar Grove Elementary, and Katie Jones, 4th Grade teacher at Maple Grove Elementary, were chosen based on their innovative use of technology in the classroom. CGHS journalists take top honors in state competition; senior named finalist for Journalist of Year
The Indiana High School Press Association (IHSPA) recognized two Center Grove High School publications and awarded several students at its annual convention on January 27 at Franklin College. The Trojaneer.com website and the Trojan yearbook won Hoosier Star awards, the highest honor for high school publications in Indiana. Read more.
CGHS senior Jack Forrest was named a finalist for the IHSPA 2023 Indiana High School Journalist of the Year. The finalists were chosen by a three-person panel. Jack is in his fourth year on the staff of CGHS's Trojaneer website and biannual new magazine. He is also a member of CGHS Student Government. He plans to attend Indiana University in the fall where he was named an Ernie Pyle Scholar.
SGES student places 2nd in state essay contenst
Sugar Grove Elementary School 4th Grade student Nora Jansen won 2nd place in the Indiana Statehood Day Essay Contest. Nora wrote a mouthwatering essay about the best foods from Indiana.
The Statehood Day Essay Contest takes place annually in the fall and is open to all Indiana fourth graders. The essays are judged by a panel of Indiana State Library staff and volunteer educators.
CGHS recognizes top students in Class of 2025
Center Grove High School honored 24 sophomores for their strong scores on the PSAT with a luncheon on Thursday, January 26. Read more.
Wiesmann named next principal of CG Middle School Central
Jason Wiesmann will be the next principal of Center Grove Middle School Central. He will replace Craig Smith who announced in February his plans to leave the position after Spring Break. The CGCSC Board of School Trustees approved Mr. Wiesmann’s appointment at its March 23 meeting.
Mr. Wiesmann has 18 years of experience as an administrator. He is currently the principal of Southport 6th Grade Academy in Perry Township Schools, a position he has held for four years. Previously, he served as an assistant principal and as dean of students at Southport Middle School. Under this leadership, Southport 6th Grade Academy was recognized nationally as a 2022 finalist for the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching’s prestigious Founder’s Award.
“We are very pleased to bring Mr. Wiesmann to Center Grove,” said Dr. Rich Arkanoff, superintendent. “He is a dedicated educator who is passionate about helping students achieve their best. We are confident he will be a great fit for our talented staff at MSC.”
"I am excited to be joining the Center Grove team and look forward to contributing to the school district's continued success," said Wiesmann. "I am eager to collaborate with my new colleagues and to work towards consistently performing and achieving at the highest of levels."
Wiesmann holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Franklin College and a master’s in Educational Administration from Ball State University. He will start at MSC in May.
CGHS junior claims 2nd state diving title; team finishes 9th
Center Grove High School junior Mia Prusiecki earned her second consecutive state championship in diving at the State Finals meet on Saturday, February 11 in the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. The team placed 9th overall thanks to strong finishes in several events. Read more.
LaRocca earns Wrestling State Title; CGHS Wrestling places 2nd
Center Grove High School junior Charlie LaRocca was crowned a State Champion in the 113 lb. weight class at the Indiana State Wrestling Championship on Saturday, February 18 in Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. CGHS Wrestling earned the State Runners-up title. CGHS set a state record with 12 state qualifiers. Including LaRocca, five wrestlers made it to the championship round.
CGHS Varsity Coach Maurice Swain was named 2023 4A Coach of the Year by Indiana MAT. The CGHS coaching staff was named 2023 Coaching Staff of the Year. Read more.
