This Week at Windsor 3.5.2021

Windsor Families,

Happy March! Spring is one of my favorite seasons, I love when the weather starts to get warm and the sun is shining! Also, it is so great to see so many families walking to and from school, it certainly helps with our Drop and Go!

If you didn't have a chance last week, please be sure to check out information from our nurse, the PTA, and Summer U. There is also information and registration for our annual math contest for grades 2-5 and a new exciting math night coming up for our K-2 students.

If your child is remote and you would them to switch to in-person learning, please complete this Windsor Step 4 Switch Form by March 10th at 7 pm. This information can also be found at https://www.sd25.org/Step4Switch.

Please be sure to send your child to school with boots, the fields are pretty muddy and some areas still have snow. It will help reduce the amount of wet and uncomfortable feet in the afternoons.

Spring Break Travel

As spring break approaches, we ask that you notify your child’s teacher if you will be quarantining after travel or extending your vacation beyond March 28th. Students who are quarantining will be allowed to attend class remotely due to the recommendation from the IDPH.

Notes from the Health Office...

Hi Parents!

Spring is around the corner and spring break provides opportunities for travel! Here are the guidelines we are following--they are ever changing so please re-visit this site before you travel.

In short:

1. Anyone traveling from a state on the Orange list (link above) is directed to obtain a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in suburban Cook County (this could be after you return) or quarantine for a 10-day period.

2. Children under the age of 18 are exempt from quarantine if they traveled with others who have received a negative COVID-19 test no longer than 72 hours prior to your return (or after your return). Children who travel alone are recommended to follow the guidance in #1 above.

Heading into the weekend, I wanted to share some ideas for STEAM fun that involve something that everyone has around the house... paper! Some of the activities on the page require you to print out a template first, while others just require paper and sometimes tape. You can find ideas for 10 paper toys you can make with your children by clicking HERE. Have fun!

Attention: Kindergarten-2nd Grade Families

Get ready to experience math in a whole new way! Join the Bedtime Math Leaders as they walk your family through hands-on, get-up-and-move activities for kids, like Rock ‘n’ Roll Hops and Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry. Join us Wednesday, April 7th from 6:30-7:30 PM for a family-friendly event designed for our Kindergarten through Second Grade students (siblings welcome!).

Supplies will be provided to your family- all you'll need to provide is scissors, tape, and pencils! Reach out to Amy Arce (aarce@sd25.org) with any questions.

5Essentials

Parents, students, and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the ninth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of Windsor School. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

· Effective Leaders

· Collaborative Teachers

· Involved Families

· Supportive Environments

· Ambitious Instruction

All 4th and 5th-grade students will be responding to this survey during the week of March 8th. 5Essentials Reports will be sent to schools and districts in May 2021 and will also be included in the State School Report Card.

Additionally, we have chosen to provide the Parent Supplement survey. If at least 20 percent of Windsor parents complete this survey, a parent supplement report will also be generated.

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at Windsor School and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

Please take few minutes to complete the survey linked below. The survey window will close on April 2, 2021.

Attention Families

The State of Illinois is approved to provide new Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer Program (P-EBT) benefits to all eligible Illinois Students. If you feel you may qualify but have not already completed a Household Eligibility Application to determine eligibility for free or reduced meal status, please submit one immediately. Applications can be downloaded from the district website or pick up an application from your child's school.

Please read the attached letter for more information.

Important Tech Tip:

Please remind your students that they should power down their Chromebooks at least once a day and maybe at lunchtime as well. That will help the "glitchiness" many are experiencing.

iPads should also be rebooted occasionally to prevent connectivity issues. Instructions are below.
