A Message from Ms. Piezas
Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone enjoyed the first of our two three day weekends. Next Monday is also a school holiday.
February is Black History Month!
In touring our classes, I am seeing some amazing work introducing our students to African American/Black contributors to American history. First grade Ms.Kaplan/Ms. Cherry's class is learning about George Washington Carver. Our upper graders are beginning to learn about drums and beats in music. Stay tuned for more updates!
World Random Acts of Kindness Day is Saturday.
This Friday we are practicing random acts of kindness. We're encouraging everyone to do something kind for someone else. It doesn't need to be a big thing. Simply picking up something someone else dropped and giving it back with a smile, holding open a door, giving a sincere compliment. Your kindness could mean the world to someone.
Have a wonderful week,
M. Piezas

Geroge Washington Carver
“When you can do the common things of life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world.”-George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was an agricultural scientist and inventor who developed hundreds of products using peanuts (though not peanut butter, as is often claimed), sweet potatoes and soybeans. Born into slavery before it was outlawed, Carver left home at a young age to pursue education and would eventually earn a master’s degree in agricultural science from Iowa State University. He would go on to teach and conduct research at Tuskegee University for decades, and soon after his death his childhood home would be named a national monument—the first of its kind to honor a Black American. -History Chanel
No Gift Bage or Food for Valentine's Day
Please do not send gift bags or food to your child's classroom for Valentine's Day. These will be returned home to parents. Please contact your child's teacher if you have further questions on February celebrations. If you would like to contribute to your child's class, school supplies, recess equipment and books are always appreciated.
Bingo Prizes
Bingo Night Prizes
The famous Corvallis Bingo Night is coming in Febrauary! We need prizes. If you have any unisex prizes that you would like to donate, PTA is accepting donations. If you know of a business that would like to donate, please reach out to Julie Hernandez, PTA president. Even small gift crads or coupons for free items are great prizes.
Join PTA
We need more PTA members! We've all enjoyed the events this year. In order for these events to keep happening we need new and more PTA members. Worried about your language skills? Not a problem, we will work that out. Our students tend to play together during the meetings, so feel free to bring them along. You can email corvalliselementarypta@gmail.com for more information.
Absences and Tardies
Students entering the building from 8:35-8:45 will be greeted by our staff and given a tardy slip to take to class. After 8:45 students will report to the office to obtain a tardy slip.
If your child will not attend school on a particular day you may email cor.att@slzusd.org or call 510-317-4999. Please leave a voice mail. Our office checks it several times a day.
