Additionally, students dismiss early on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 (no PM kdg this day), and have NO SCHOOL from November 24-28, 2022, for Thanksgiving Break.

National SADD Student Leadership Council Appointee
Congratulations to Cumberland Valley High School’s Aarushi Dedhiya, who was recently named to the 2022-2023 NATIONAL Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Student Leadership Council. Aarushi is one of only 12 teens from across the country selected to represent today’s youth on SADD’s leadership council. She is also a member of both the CV High School and Pennsylvania SADD chapters.
Congratulations, Aarushi!
Special Guest Shares Story with CVHS Students
Cumberland Valley High School 10-12 students had the opportunity to spend a portion of NEST with author and Civil Rights activist Lisa McNair yesterday. Ms. McNair is the younger sister of Denise McNair who was murdered in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Born one year after her sister’s murder, Lisa has crafted 40 letters to the sister she never knew. Although the two never met, Lisa’s letters show the impact Denise had on their family, and her life, even after her death. Lisa’s message is one of racial reconciliation and a testament to a life lived bravely and truthfully.
Ms. McNair also spoke with our CVHS Civil Rights class prior to the optional presentation during NEST.
Thank you, Ms. McNair, for sharing your story with some of our students!
Throughout the week, schools across the District are honoring veterans and active duty service men and women by hosting a variety of activities and programs. As part of these appreciation celebrations, Mountain View Middle School welcomed retired and active duty service men and women into the school today to talk with students about their military careers.
Pictured Above: Sr. Master Sargent Micah Good serves as an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. Fun fact, Sr. Master Sargent Good is a former student of Assistant Principal Roger Riegel during Mr. Riegel's time in the classroom as a Social Studies teacher.
Thank you to all who have served or are currently serving our country!
Candy for the Troops
Green Ridge and Shaull Elementary School PTOs recently came together to host a Candy for Troops collection event. As part of the event, students from both schools donated their trick-or-treat candy and PTO volunteers (pictured below) put together 600 bags to be donated to PA soldiers who are currently on deployment. Students also created handmade cards for the troops, which will accompany the candy.
We're #CVproud of our students for their acts of kindness and we're so very appreciative of our parent volunteers for always being so generous with their time in support of our students and greater CV community. Thank you!

Portrait of an Eagle: Classroom Spotlight
Students in Sra. Blouch's Spanish class at Eagle View Middle School recently learned about Día de los muertos and, for the culminating activity, made calaveras with balloons. This activity was both engaging and an opportunity to display many of our Portrait of an Eagle competencies: Critical thinking in planning out the design, adaptability when a balloon breaks or a stray line alters the design, communication in the sharing of materials, and more! Our students demonstrated that they each, in their own creative way, are a Portrait of an Eagle! #CVproud
