HITEON HIGHLIGHTS NEWSLETTER
April 2020
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hiteon Families,
Wednesday of this week, Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced the closure of public school campuses through the end of the 2019-20 academic school year due to COVID-19. In keeping with this order Beaverton School District will be continuing digital learning for all students this school year.
The news that we cannot return to school this year, though not surprising, still comes as a blow for many of us in our community. It is emotional to know we cannot see our students smiling faces and do many of the traditions that have been a staple of our community in the same way. We are doing our best to think outside the box and develop new ways to connect as a community.
The Hiteon staff is committed to all our students' emotional and academic needs. We are learning a lot ourselves right now and will be making adjustments as we delve deeper into remote teaching and learning. We appreciate all of your patience during this time of learning for all of us.
We will continue to keep you updated and informed. Please reach out to us or to the appropriate administrator, counselor or teacher directly if you have any questions.
Take care and be well!
Meghan Warren, Principal
Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

I also wanted to let you know that the Student Success Coach and I are working to send out weekly Social/Emotional skills lessons to all of our students. These lessons will be sent out via the teacher every Friday. Our lessons will be focusing on how to cope with emotions and stress.
Our first lesson is about identifying how we are feeling and then practicing ways to cope with those feelings. We attached a list of activities that you can also do at home. I'm including those links below if you wanted to take a look.

Please remember to take care of yourselves and give yourself grace and patience as we all work through this unremarkable time in our history. Now Enrolling for Kindergarten 2020-2021
The Beaverton School District is now enrolling for Kindergarten at all elementary schools for the 2020-2021 school year online only.
Any child who will be five (5) years of age on or before September 1, 2020 is now eligible to enroll for Kindergarten online. Online Registration is available for new student enrollment. After the online application has been submitted you will be contacted by our Registrar, Valerie Sinnott, for any additional documentation that you will submit online. These additional documents are important as you may receive school-specific forms to complete. Parents/guardians will also need to provide a birth certificate, proof of address and immunization record at the time of enrollment.
Due to the recent COVID-19 closures, Kindergarten orientation has been canceled. Here at Hiteon, we are trying to put together a virtual online Kindergarten orientation. Stay tuned for more information.
For more information on registering a child for Kindergarten, Immunization Requirements and much more, please visit the Kindergarten information web page by clicking on the picture below.

HAVE YOU HEARD? THAT THERE IS A WORLDWIDE "BEAR HUNT"
Next week, April 13-17, Hiteon's Kindergarten will be going on a "bear hunt" through our neighborhoods. Several of Kindergarten's learning activities will involve bears! Please share with your neighbors, so they can begin placing bears in windows if they haven't already. If you haven't heard of this movement, check out the article below.
