Heritage Update
October 2, 2023
Principals update
It is hard to believe we have been in school for a month. It has been a wonderful start to the year and our staff is working hard to ensure your children have a positive and rewarding year at the Heritage Elementary School. The students are doing an outstanding job learning the expectations and they are already in a routine that will provide a year of increased student achievement.
Read with your child. Ask your child to read to you. Most students have been assigned 15 minutes of reading a night. Reading together can reap many benefits as we move through this school year. Please be on the lookout for monthly reading challenges that are being put together by our reading and Title One teachers.
I also invite you to become involved at the Heritage Elementary School. Please be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities throughout the school year, whether within the classroom or schoolwide. The first opportunity to participate is by becoming a member of the Heritage School Council. The School Council is an advisory group that has input in creating an improvement plan as well as providing input in creating the annual school budget. If you are interested please fill out the form below. Working together as a parent-school team makes Heritage School a better place to learn.
DIBELS Testing/ WINN and Reading Intervention
The students are finishing their beginning of the year assessments. In the reading world we use the DIBELS 8th assessment. More information regarding DIBELS can be found here https://dibels.uoregon.edu/about-dibels. The school uses this information to assess each students literacy skills. We will use this information to help place students in Reading Intervention, Title One classes and a WINN class that can provide appropriate interventions.
The assessment window closes on October 5th and shortly thereafter you will receive a copy of your child's scores.

National Custodian Day
October 2nd is National Custodian Day. We at the Heritage Elementary School are blessed to have some of the hardest working custodians I have ever met. They make sure that the Heritage School is ready to go each and every day.
