To date, 88% of our students have attended school at least 90% of the days we have been in school. We need to be at 95% for accreditation by the end of the school year. Attendance was the only area in which we did not achieve the maximum points for accreditation for SY 2022-23. Help us achieve this goal by sending your child to school every day (unless s/he is too sick to come!). Please do not schedule vacations during the school year except during holiday breaks.
PK and Kinder, we need your help! Please send your children to school! Reach out to our parent liaison, Ms. Hernandez, or one of our school counselors, Ms. Young or Ms. Simmons, if you need assistance! Thank you for your support!
Kinder - 25% of students have been absent at least 10% of the school year so far.
Ms. Cracknell's class - 16% chronic absences
Ms. Chamblin's class - 20% chronic absences
Ms. Riley's class - 11% chronic absences
Ms. Smith's class - 13% chronic absences
PK - 30% of students have been absent at least 10% of the school year so far.

Ms. Smith's class - 32% chronic absences
Ms. Tyler's class - 42% chronic absences
Schoolwide - SPED students (students with IEPs) - 16%

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR LEXIA SUPER STARS!
Week of 11/19/2023 to 11/25/2023
The students listed below have increased their reading levels on the reading program LEXIA for the week of November 19th to November 25th! Keep up the great work!
PARENT RESOURCES CORNER
How can I help my child read and spell words?
Amplify (click on phonics) offers ideas for at-home activities for younger students to develop foundational skills.
The Institute of Education Sciences has great resource videos with materials to improve spelling and reading skills.
The National Center on Improving Literacy has a toolkit for parents that includes videos, infographics, and activities for parents.
Federal Impact Aid Annual Survey
As a reminder, if you have not completed the Impact Aid survey in ParentVUE, the deadline to complete it is Thursday, November 30, 2023. Below are more frequently asked questions by parents:
What if I don’t want to (or can’t) provide my work location?
If PWCS does not receive this information, Impact Aid funding cannot be received for your student. Parent information captured on the Impact Aid survey is used solely to submit the Impact Aid application.
How can I ensure PWCS receives the funding it is entitled to?
Complete all portions of the Impact Aid survey to ensure your survey can be processed and counted. Survey data is used to determine the number of eligible students in the school division.
Thank you in advance for doing your part to help us maximize financial educational resources for our students!

Digital Devices for students
PWCS recognizes that with provisioning student digital devices, there is a need to protect the investment of both the school division and the parent/guardian/student. Students who lose or damage a digital device (e.g., tablet, laptop) beyond future use and do not have digital device insurance may be asked for restitution to the school-based finance specialist. Consideration will be given to students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. The following are the digital device replacement costs based on the age of the device:
Digital Device - Laptop
- Up to One Year $308
- Between One and Two Years $231
- Between Two and Three Years $154
- Between Three and Four Years $77
Digital Device - iPad
- Up to One Year $245/285
- Between One and Two Years $184/214
- Between Two and Three Years $123/143
- Between Three and Four Years $61/71
For lost or damaged chargers, contact the finance specialist (Ms. Hawkins) or the Instructional Technology Coach (Ms. Bruce) at Mary Williams ES for the current replacement cost.
