Travel tips and meeting info
The participants are allowed to arrive to Bucharest one or two days earlier (or one day earlier and leave one day later) or one or two days later, but the pick up dates will be 24th of May and 4th of June 2019.
However, before booking the tickets the participants must check the itinerary with us, and in case they will find more affordable tickets on a specific day we may decide if we are to make an exception to the 2 day rule, as our National Agency is strict with this aspect.
Make sure you have a valid (not expired) ID card or a valid Passport. Also, make sure to have your European Health Card or health insurance for the time span of your stay in Romania. Although the insurance cost will not be covered by the project grant, we strongly recommend you to get insured for your travel to Romania. It should cost around 8-15 EUR per person for 10 days, with most of the well known insuring companies.
Pack in your hand luggage some “back-up” clothes and underwear in case your suitcase gets lost in the airport. This is not something that usually happens at Henri Coanda International Airport, but rather something that we have learnt about from other similar projects both nationally and internationally :)
Please use the cheapest possible means of transportation - second class. If you will use train and/or the bus as well, please use the second class, this is very important.
Keep all your boarding passes and travelling tickets otherwise we will not be able to make any reimbursement!
Only public transportation will be reimbursed (e. g.: taxi at your own expense).
When you arrive at Henri Coanda International Airport:
If you arrive by plane, you should take:
- either the 783 airport public bus that will take you directly to Piata Unirii station- the last stop, in the center of Bucharest. Here you can see more info about trip schedule and stops: TO PIATA UNIRII (city center) and TO HENRI COANDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
- or 780 airport public bus which will take you to the main train station in Bucharest, which is Gara de Nord. It is the second to last bus stop, so don't forget to get off there. Here you can see more info about trip schedule and stops: To GARA DE NORD and TO HENRI COANDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
You can purchase tickets from the kiosk near the bus stop, which is to the right hand side as you come out of the airport.
The name of the public bus company is STB (or RATB which was the old name which that may still be not updated on the panels of some kiosks or even on the buses).
If you will decide to travel by train or bus you will arrive at main (bus/train) station and will be picked up by our volunteers.
This is not settled yet, but most likely the departure to the project venue, from Bucharest, will be from main train station, Gara de Nord, where we will arrange a bus for the participants. Anyway, more info on this will follow later.
If you come earlier/leave later and would like to visit Bucharest, there are quite many cheap hostels around the Old Town or nearby. The price range should be 8 to 15 euros, which is also the price range for a proper meal at an average restaurant in the area.
Important!
Romania is not part of the Euro Zone and our currency is the Leu (RON). You can exchange money in exchange offices, banks and kiosks.
You can buy a bus ticket to the city center with cred it or debit card from the Henri Coandă International Airport. One-way ticket with the Express 783 bus for city centre costs 3,5 RON. In Bucharest you can use your credit and debit cards (VISA, Maestro, MasterCard
etc.) almost everywhere.
Reimbursement
For the reimbursement you need:
- An invoice for the tickets
- Non-online purchases: a receipt (showing that you have paid the money) – only for train and bus tickets
- Document showing that the money was paid (receipt, bank confirmation etc.)
For the airplane tickets:
- Flight ticket (with the name of the passenger and flight details)
- All boarding passes
- Confirmation of reservation
Please, make sure that you have all these documents when you come to the seminar (of course, the return boarding passes might be sent after the seminar).
Please DO NOT lose your boarding passes, train tickets and/or bus tickets. We will not be able to make the reimbursement anymore, if you lose them.
We encourage you to find flights which allow online check-in and also we recommend you to use the mobile check-in (when possible), as this way you can save a copy of your boarding passes easily and thus you can even make a print screen of the document and store it in a safe folder on your phone/cloud etc.
Reimbursement will be done by bank transfer ONLY in the account of your sending organization, according to the rules of Erasmus+ and our National Agency.
What to bring along
Comfortable/casual clothing
Make sure to bring comfortable clothes. During May the weather in Romania will generally be warm, though at night it can get a little bit chilly. You will need some light clothes but also something to keep you warm in case the temperature gets lower than expected. The average temperature in the south of Romania in May is usually 24 degrees Celsius during the day time and 12 degrees Celsius at night.
For bathrooms there will be towels available, but you may bring your personal ones for extra care. Also, don't forget the bring slippers for shower.
Laptops
We encourage you to bring laptops as we will need several ones to work on the final outcome of the seminar. We will being ours, of course, but those might not be enough.
Eventually, don't leave at home your good mood and openness :)
What to prepare?
Future participants are expected to make a little bit of research, prior to their arrival, on their local community and to look into the immigration facts that are specific to their countries. These will be delivered by the participants in a presentation, by national group at the beginning of the activities.
For this you may use 1-2 news/research articles or national reports form your country about migration issues. It can be about immigrants /emigration issues etc. Please make a short summary of the article also in
English. We will be using this information in debates on how is your country affected by the current migration phenomenon (especially in the context of the immigrants coming to Europe from Middle East and North Africa region (MENA), positive and negative aspects regarding that, future predictions etc.
Presentation of your organisation:
Please be prepared to present your organisation during the meeting.
Bring some informational materials about your organisation and other things which will help you to present your organisation.
Cultural evening
Please bring something typical from your place in order to present to the other participants during the events of cultural nights. Food, drinks, traditional clothes, music, any “interesting stuff” to show, tell us some curiosity about your traditions or social behaviors, teach us some dance, play a traditional game, everything but power point presentation and touristic videos, such as from YouTube!
