Message from the Principal...

We are very pleased at Gaylord Middle School with the year so far as our first marking period comes to an end. The entire student body and teaching staff had a great break outside on Tuesday morning as we showed our American spirit while filming a few drone shots that will be part of our veteran’s day video. Please be sure to take a look at the Gaylord Schools website on November 11th to view the video saying thank you to all our veterans. I also want to take this opportunity to encourage our students to take advantage of morning tutoring in the Media Center at 7:40 a.m. with our Math and ELA teachers.

Introducing Zach Napont

I graduated from Boyne City High School in 2015. After that, I attended the University of Michigan where I received my undergraduate degree in History. During my undergrad, I was fortunate enough to get to work as a student manager for the University of Michigan men’s basketball team. I continued my education at the University of Michigan receiving my master’s in Secondary Education. Last year, I long term subbed for Trish Hills at the middle school. This is my first official year teaching 8th grade history at GMS and I am loving it. In addition to teaching, I was hired as the boys varsity basketball coach at the high school. Be sure to come out and support the boys this year!

Veteran's Day Celebration

Our 25th annual Veterans Day celebration, on Thursday, November 11th, will continue this year though it may look different than in past years. An invitation to attend is extended to all Veterans, as we pay tribute to the sacrifices that all veterans have made. If you know any Veterans, please encourage them to contact us at 731-0848, by November 5th, so we can add them to the guest list. We have attached a copy of the Veteran's Day letter at the bottom of this newsletter for more information.

Athletics

Boys basketball tryouts will be Monday, 10/25, Tuesday, 10/26 and Wednesday, 10/27 after school. 8th grade boys will tryout at GMS from 3:15-5:30 p.m. 7th grade tryouts are at GIS from 3:15-5:00 p.m.

Cheer practice will be Tuesday, 10/26, Wednesday, 10/27, and Thursday, 10/28 from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. A parent meeting will be held Thursday, October 28th at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Girls basketball & wrestling tryouts will begin the week of January 3rd.

All student athletes must have a current physical on file in the GMS office in order to participate.
