Irish Gifted Academy
Week of September 25th, 2022
From the Desk of Dr. Norfleet
Happy Weekend IGA family!
Well it’s been a good week at IGA, despite an outbreak of the flu. While many of our students
and, some staff, have suffered with the flu, everyone seems to be getting over it quickly and
getting back to school in a timely manner. Maybe this is a sign of a return to normalcy!
I’ve had an opportunity to read some student writing this week from the classrooms of our ELA teachers, Mrs. Allen and Ms. Mulkey. Our students are learning more than facts and figures at IGA, they are learning to write creatively and critically, which leads to stronger critical thinking and amazing overall growth. I am so proud of the work that our teachers and students are doing each day!
The students, led by our amazing IGA Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Hogan, have been treating out
stairways and walls to some makeovers that are amazing to see. Check out our Facebook page to see some of the pictures and see them for yourself the next opportunity you have to visit.
Next week will be a busy one! Go Dublin Irish!
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
We have completed 36 days of learning and growing at IGA, and every minute
really counts! It is an exciting and busy time at IGA. Our first Local School
Governance Team Meeting will be Wednesday, September 28th at 4:30 p.m. We
encourage all of our parents to attend and learn about Dublin City Schools
Strategic Plan, COGNIA, and Dublin City Schools Charter Contract.
Our first House Day will be September 30th . Students are encouraged to show their House
Spirit by wearing their house color. The House with the most participation will
receive the Spirit Stick and 15 House Points! We have begun Parent/Teacher
Conferences. This is an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss students’
academic and behavioral growth. Our goal is 100% Parent/Teacher Conferences
complete by October 11. If you need additional information and have any questions
or concerns, please call 478-353-8450.
This week, I would like to highlight Mrs. McDaniel and Mrs. Saxena’s kindergarten
class. Students have been learning with phonics by reading consonant-vowel-
consonant (cvc) words, consonant blends, rhyming words, word segmentation, and
letter sounds for V, J, X, & W. The focus for reading has been characters and
setting in a story. During math instruction students practiced representing
numbers in different ways, making 10, and word problems.
It’s Fall Ya’ll! As September 22nd was the first day of Fall/Autumn, the kindergarten students
explored the sky and seasons as their science theme. What a fun-filled week of learning week for kindergarten at IGA!
Our Character Trait for the month of September is Cooperative.
