Weekly Update
Strive Center for Autism
September's Theme is Apple Orchard
The kids worked on the letter "A" this week, and enjoyed this video during literacy time: Letter A by Jack Hartmann
This is a fun variation on a popular Dr. Seuss book, Ten Apples Up on Top, that we are using during circle time this month.
Look for info on a "Fall Fun Day" at our centers later this month - we're planning a day with apples, cider, and donuts and fun fall activities outside for the kids!
Burton Hair Cut Workshop
Bring your child to come get a haircut from a professional hair stylist in a calm, familiar environment at the center. Leading up to the workshop, Evey can help you during parent training sessions to help work on desensitizing your child to the hair cut process and build up some skills to support the process. During the workshop, Evey will be there to help support and coach both you and the hair stylist to best cater to your child.
Where: Strive Burton
When: November 7th, 9am-12pm
How: Contact Evey via Remind or email at ewright@sc-centers.com and she will book your spot
Cost: $20 per child
COMING SOON TO BRIGHTON, TOO!
TheraWe Platform Coming This Weekend!
We are excited to announce that we will begin using the TheraWe platform in the near future. TheraWe is a mobile app that provides a bridge for better therapy session updates, personal training videos, and navigating the entire pediatric therapy journey.
Specifically, it will:
Enable your therapy provider to send you (and your entire family) video updates and visual home training instructions in a HIPAA-compliant way
Allow you to chat questions and transmit videos of behaviors from home after your therapy session
Create a video therapy record that will reduce the risk of regression when switching organizations and/or entering the school system
We believe this approach will lead to improved child outcomes and a more inclusive day-to-day experience for your entire family team.
Coming soon, you will receive more information about how to sign up and access your TheraWe account, as well as training on how to maximize it. If you’d like to learn more, please watch this short video or visit https://www.theraweconnect.com/
Create Your TheraWe Account
We will be able to add additional caregivers to your TheraWe. For example, if grandparents, aunts, uncles, or babysitters regularly pick up your child or are interested in understanding therapy or what to do with your child outside of therapy, they can be added to your group of caregivers in TheraWe. Your BCBA will work with you on adding people over the next few weeks.
Trick or Treat!
You are welcome to send your child's Halloween costume into the center around the first of October, and we'll make sure he's comfortable wearing it before the big day. Sometimes our kids need more than a quick practice to wear a costume long enough to participate in festivities. We normally use costumes and dress up items in our dramatic play center for Halloween, but this year we will stick with either the costume you send in, or plastic items that can be sanitized.
We typically use a variety of non-edible treats at our trick or treat stations, and may use some candy items. We will check with individual parents regarding any edible treats prior to our big trick or treat day to make sure your child has a fun and safe experience.
