Hello Schluter Families!

It has been a great week getting back from Thanksgiving break. Our students jumped right back into learning, and it shows! As we enter the winter season, there are many activities and fun events coming up, so be sure to keep the "fridge" note that went home readily available and keep checking Parent Square for updates on all events.

We hope to see you at our PTA's Breakfast with Santa event tomorrow morning (Saturday) in the gym and cafeteria. Santa will be making an appearance, so don't miss it!

We have some fun dress up days starting next week that students are welcome to join in on! These are optional, and please remember that the dress code still applies. As the weather continues to change, please check that jackets and sweaters are labeled. At the end of December, all remaining item in the lost and found will be donated.

Each year, Northwest ISD opens its Virtual Angel Tree to ensure every child has during the holiday season. Community members can visit angeltree.nisdtx.org to select a student – or multiple students – to provide gifts. A suggested $100 limit exists for each child. Northwest ISD’s three comprehensive high schools - Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest - are each preparing holiday fine arts performances, with shows coming soon.

The Northwest Texan fine arts department will perform “The Wizard of Oz” from December 3 to 6, the Byron Nelson fine arts department will perform “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Jr.” on December 15 and 16, and the Eaton Eagle fine arts department will perform “A Christmas Carol” from December 15 to 17. Registration is ongoing for Northwest ISD’s annual Reindeer Romp! The event consists of a 1-mile fun run and 5K run, with all proceeds benefiting school P.E. departments.

The event begins with the 1-mile run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, followed 30 minutes later by the 5K race. Both races take place at Alliance Airport. Register now and select our school to help our P.E. program! Information and registration is available at www.nisdreindeerromp.com.

Join Northwest ISD leaders for a Facebook Live video chat at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, previewing 2023-2024 attendance boundary changes! With five campuses slated to open in 2023, the video chat will focus on previewing attendance boundary changes that will go into effect next school year.

Additionally, the district will also preview planned locations for Northwest ISD’s fourth comprehensive high school and eighth middle school as well as forecasting for long-term growth. Tune in to learn more!

Do you feel like you’re getting too many texts or emails from ParentSquare? Just want notifications in the ParentSquare app? Change your communications preference to meet how you want to receive messages!

Families in Northwest ISD have full control of how they receive ParentSquare messages. To change your settings, sign in on the ParentSquare website and hover over your profile’s name in the top right corner to select “My Account.” From there, click “Notification Settings” on the left sidebar and turn on or off any message format (email, text and app) and whether you receive notifications instantly or each evening (in the “digest” option).

Northwest ISD uses MySchoolBucks for meal accounts, and families can actively monitor their students’ available money or add funds to their accounts by visiting www.myschoolbucks.com.

For students who meet federal requirements, school meals may be provided free or at a reduced cost. To receive this benefit, a student's parent or guardian must fill out the free or reduced-cost meal application and be granted admission into the program. While students in the program receive the same benefits briefly at the start of the following school year, the application must be completed annually to continue receiving the program's benefits. For any student who received benefits from the free or reduced-priced meal program in 2021-2022 but has not yet applied and been granted its benefits for the current school year, regular costs are now in effect.

In order for benefits to continue, an application must be completed and returned and free or reduced-price meals will continue to be provided, if the student qualifies. The application can be completed at this link. Paper applications are also available at all Northwest ISD campuses. Northwest ISD paraprofessionals are receiving an increase in their starting pay following unanimous approval by the school board! Beginning immediately, Beginning with this week’s paycheck, the minimum wage for an hourly Northwest ISD paraprofessional staff member will increase from $12.50 to $15 per hour. Additionally, the minimum wage for bus monitors will increase to $14 per hour.
