WHEW! What a week! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your patience, flexibility, and kindness as we navigate this new world we're learning in! Our systems and processes are new for students, teachers, and families, and we so appreciate you being partners with us in your students' education!

We've received lots of feedback from our virtual instruction last week, and we'll continue to make improvements for ease and effectiveness for our families. Thank you for communicating with us!

Our website is PACKED with helpful information and resources. I've also included some highly-accessed information here for your convenience. Our School Calendar, Welcome Videos, and tutorials for accessing Blackboard from either a Chromebook or an iPad can be found below.

Whether our scholars are joining us in-person or virtually, it has been such a blessing to SEE them again! We have missed them incredibly, and want nothing more than to have them back in our presence.

• To make sure our students are safe, we have had to change some of our policies this year. While we love having parent and family involvement, we are not able to accommodate visitors of any kind in our building right now. Thank you for being cognizant of this and calling when needs arise.

• Our new dismissal procedure is working WONDERFULLY, thanks to everyone following the same process! We were able to dismiss all Tuesday students on the first day of school within eight (yes, 8!) minutes! On Thursday, it only took six minutes! Whoo hoo! Thank you, everyone!

• For bus riders, someone MUST be at the bus stop with students until the bus arrives in the morning and again for the bus to drop off students in the afternoon. No students will be left at bus stops without someone to get them.

If you signed up for a meal kit, the distribution schedule is as follows:

Tuesdays: Meal kits for students on the Monday/Tuesday in-person schedule will be sent home with them on Tuesdays.

Wednesdays: Fully virtual families can pick up meal kits for the week between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on Wednesdays. These can be picked up by the west gym doors on the side of the building (where we did food distribution in the spring).

Fridays: Students on the Thursday/Friday in-person schedule will take their meal kits home with them on Fridays.

If you opted out of the meal kids but would like to change your mind, please email Nick Zilz at zilzn@greaterheightsacademy.org, or call him at (810) 768-3860 to be added to the meal kit distributions.

We have earbuds available for students! They will be given to our in-person learners at school to use in the building and take home with them. For fully virtual learners, earbuds can be picked up at the west entrance of the building during food distribution on Wednesday (8:00 am - 4:00 pm).

I stumbled upon this quote, and it struck me in two ways: 1. as a parent and 2. as an educator. Some days are really hard, but what our children and our students will remember is how we handled ourselves in that moment. They won't remember the specifics of the situation-- what caused our stress/anger/frustration/sadness, but they will remember how we dealt with it. Were we kind to others? Did we problem-solve? Did we remain calm or let our fear take over? At every turn, we are modeling for our children, and our students, how they should behave when faced with similar transgressions. That's worth remembering.
