KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Kia ora Vogeltown whānau, welcome to the last newsletter for Term 3, what an amazing term we have had! Despite the cold and wet weather and lots of inside lunchtimes, the tamariki and our kaiako have had a wonderful term. We met as a leadership team yesterday for our 'targeted meeting' and the progress that the majority of our kids have made over this term is outstanding!
Looking back over this term we have:
* Had learning conferences in the first week
* Got Room 1 open for our 18 awesome tamariki and fantastic kaiako
* Had the NPPA sports finals
* LEAD conference for our Class Reps
* Paetoki Speech finals
* Welcomed our 2nd cohort of tamariki
* Celebrated Daffodil Day
* Had a visit from Harold and Life Education
* Had our school Cross Country
* Had our school colour run
* Had our Open Night
* Participated in the New Plymouth and Taranaki Cross Country
* Celebrated 'Wig Wednesday'
* Celebrated 'Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori'
* Participated in the NPPA Music Festival
* Celebrated our Paetoki 'Social Dancing'
And above all, we completed some amazing learning through our 'Whirling Worlds' unit of work!
Next term our topic will be 'The art of narrative'. This is going to be based around our local curriculum here at Vogeltown, involving our Huatoki domain and local environment and the 'arts' (music and drama). It is going to be a great topic and will be developing an area of our curriculum we often do less.
A big thanks to all whanau who gave us some feedback around our strategic plan for 2024. We received 111 responses, and these responses gave us some detail of what our Vogeltown community and whānau want for our school in 2024 and beyond. We have also received feedback from our learners and our staff. We will be meeting with our local iwi next term to discuss how we can incorporate successful learning and teaching for our Maori learners too. We are looking forward to sharing our strategic plan with whānau by the end of the year.
Next term our school roll will hit 400 kids, this will be the first time the Vogeltown School roll has been on 400 in its history! We are thinking of ways we can celebrate this milestone and we will let you know early next term - we envisage a whānau/community event!
A reminder that Term 4 begins on the 9th of October. Until then, have a great holiday break, whānau! Enjoy and optimize the time with your tamariki and get outside and enjoy this warmer weather! We will see you all back here at Vogeltown in 2 weeks!
Nga mihi nui, have a great holiday break, whānau!

SCHOOL GOAL THIS TERM - BE A RESPECTFUL VOGELTOWNER
Taranaki Cross Country 2023
Yesterday we had 10 runners head down to Hawera to participate in the Taranaki Cross Country event. A big thanks to all the whānau who helped transport and manage our running team.
The team was:
Lewis Zimmermann
Oscar Hurley
Cooper Scott
Ted Cozens
Jackson Cowley
Reggie Rei
Isabel Gernhoefer
Claudia Yukich
Imanii Osborne
Bailey Smith
We had some great results!
Claudia Yukich - 8th place in 10 year old girls
Ted Cozens - 6th place in 10 year old boys
Tino pai to our team - you all ran with courage and enthusiasm!
Congratulations!
As with every year, we have changes in staffing and 2023 is no different. We have reluctantly accepted Cam Hedley's resignation for 2024 as Cam and her partner Simon (also a teacher) move to Australia to take up teaching positions.
Although we still have a term to go in the year, we wanted to let all whānau know of Cam's plans in 2024 as we begin to recruit for another awesome kaiako to replace Cam.
In the meantime, Cam will continue to provide the fantastic teaching in Rm 14 she has shown us throughout this year.
Paetoki team - Social dancing
Yesterday we celebrated the end of the 'Social dancing' unit of the dance curriculum! We had an awesome dance off and celebrated with our tamariki and whānau - a big thanks to all the whānau who came along!
A big thanks to Mr Ransfield and his awesome team who have managed to make what can be a daunting and anxious time for the kids a happy and engaging time! Ka mau te wehi, whānau!
NPPA Music Festival 2023
We had a great evening on Wednesday, celebrating our choir and ukelele team who entertained us, along with 21 other schools and 770 other kids, in the music festival.
Our learners did an amazing job and sang with passion, played with purpose and entertained with excitement! They did all while being watched by an audience of 1600 whānau!
A massive thanks to Ms Pretty and Mrs Lewis who trained our choir and to Mrs Melody who trained our ukelele team - thanks so much team!

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS 2024:
Enrolment at Vogeltown School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office or from our website.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period will run from 30 January 2024 to 12 April 2024.
The second enrolment period will run from 29 April 2024 to 5 July 2024.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by Wednesday 14th February 2024. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments received from students who live within the school's home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of out of zone places is Friday 23rd February 2024. Application for enrolment for an out of zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the school office and from our website). Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2024 should apply by Friday 6th October 2023 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2024 school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Monday 26th February 2024. Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Tuesday 27th February 2024.
