Happy Holidays
Letter from Mr. Nelson
Smallville-
These last three days have yielded very little learning, but we've made up for what we’ve lacked in knowledge gained with celebrations and revelry. Some might think this is bad, while others may think this is truly great.
We here in Smallville park our cars in the garages that believe celebrations are just as, if not more important, than teaching and learning. We love coming together as a group and sharing a common goal and bond, and we need to know that all of our hard work will be rewarded. When our students and staff share hot cocoa and goodies while watching Elf, Home Alone, or any of the countless other holiday movies together, it only solidifies that we truly do like one another. One can’t imagine enjoying these offerings with strangers. Imagine sharing snacks and laughing at The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special with people you just met or the other patients in the waiting room at the doctor’s office. Bah Humbug to that.
No, we celebrate with one another because we get along. Not all the time, mind you, but enough to complete the task at hand. We ask our students to be civil to one another, and then they take it further and become life-long friends. This is why we believe Smallville is a special place for students, staff, families, and a variety of barnyard animals.
Hall Monitors: Next semester, we will have two openings for hall monitors, and we’d like your help hiring them. If you know somebody who digs kids, believes keeping students safe and out of trouble is important, and likes to walk over 15,000 steps a day, please email me. We know our kids are the best-behaved kids in AISD, but we also know that their behavior increases tenfold when more adult eyes are on them. We need two caring, proactive individuals to make sure they are where they are supposed to be, not where they aren’t supposed to be and have the ability to let them know the difference with kindness and care. Maybe even you?
Have a great break. See you next year.

The Oak Hill Parkway project
The Oak Hill Parkway project will be closing the crossover between Old Fredericksburg Road and Harper Park Drive beginning as early as December 12. Drivers will be routed to the next U-turn. This closure is expected to last about six weeks. I understand the disruption this may cause Small Middle School staff and parents. I apologize for the short notice.
