First, I would like to wish everyone in the Montgomery County Public School community a happy and healthy new year. I hope this year is off to a great start. Our return to school on January 9th marked the start of the second semester for our students and the crossing of the midpoint of the school year. I am always amazed at how fast the school year seems to progress once it has begun. Before you know it, we will be planning promotion and graduation ceremonies across the division! With that in mind, the start of a new semester and the new year offers a great opportunity for our staff and students to recommit themselves to settling for nothing less than excellence.

The start of the new year also brings many exciting activities in the MCPS community. First is the beginning of the renovation project at Christiansburg High School. This is an exciting time at CHS, and it is great to see these enhancements coming to fruition. The first changes students, staff, and parents will notice are alterations to the parking lots and drop-off loop. These changes are needed to accommodate the construction process, which will occur simultaneously as school is taking place, and will require ongoing management. We appreciate the understanding and flexibility of our CHS family during this time. Please click here to see what the finished project at Christiansburg High School will look like.

We have several other capital projects in place aimed at enhancing our facilities and programs for students, including several roofing projects and renovation of the Ops Center. As these projects unfold, we will continue to update our school community on their progress.

This is an exciting time in Montgomery County Public Schools, and I look forward to leading this fine institution as we continue to Engage, Encourage and Empower our school community.

We would like to thank our custodial and maintenance crews who worked diligently over the holiday break and even on Christmas Eve to mitigate the damages caused by burst water pipes at multiple locations during the extreme cold. Without their hard work and dedication, we would not have been able to return to school this past week safely. THANK YOU!!!
