Don't forget, in order to work in NYS you must have a valid work permit if you are under 18. It's always a good idea to have a permit ready to go as you just never know when a job opportunity may come your way!
Working papers are divided into two age groups:
14-15 year-olds - Your work permit is blue.
16-17 year-olds – Your work permit is green. *The number of hours you are eligible to work increases.
What You Will Need
- Physical Fitness Certification - You will need to have had a doctor's exam within the last 12 months verifying you are physically fit for work. During the school year, the school nurse may complete this form if an updated health form is on file in her office. Otherwise, complete the top portion of the form and take it to your doctor’s office for a signature. The form can be pick up from a secretary in the Counseling Office or use the link below: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/sss/documents/AT-16fillable.pdf
- AT-17 Application - An application can also be pick up from a Counseling Office secretary. Fill out Part One only of the application and have your parent or guardian sign it. You can also use this link: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/sss/documents/AT17-FillableMay21.pdf
- Pick up work permit - When you have both forms signed, bring them to the Counseling Office to receive a work permit. Students are required to sign their permit in front of a school secretary who will check your identification in SchoolTool. No proof of identification is necessary if you are a registered student.
Remember - When you turn 16, you will need to upgrade your 14–15 year-old work permit (blue) to a 16–17 year-old work permit (green). **A new application and Physical Fitness Certification will be required. **
Additional Copies of Work Permits
If you need another work permit for a new job (same color permit for the same age), stop by the Counseling Office. A new work permit will be issued using the same permit number that was originally assigned, as your application is kept on file.

Internships
Senator Cooney's Campaign Internship - posted 7/16
My name is Henry Szuchman and I’m the Field Coordinator for Senator Jeremy Cooney’s campaign. Senator Cooney currently represents the 56th Senate District in New York State which encompasses parts of Rochester, and we are looking for interns to help work on our re-election campaign!
Our internship program is designed not only to give students direct exposure into the ins and outs of a political campaign, but also to give them meaningful work that will be integral to the success of Senator Cooney on Election Day.
This work will include direct voter contact, data analysis, input, and research, fundraising, and campaign communications strategy. They would be asked to help campaign staff at events with the Senator and other elected officials, make phone calls and canvass door-to-door, help manage the office, and much more. We believe that the transferable skills that students will learn and can improve on in this internship will include written and verbal communication, time-management, organization, and how to work together as a team towards a common goal.
The internship is hiring immediately and interns are accepted on a rolling basis. No previous campaign experience is necessary! We ask that interns apply ASAP by filling out this short google form. We will be actively recruiting for interns throughout the summer and fall. Hours are flexible to accommodate other work or extracurricular responsibilities,
Students are also welcome to use our internship towards any applicable academic credit programs.
Our internship is offered primarily in-person in our headquarters in Brighton.
Best,
Henry Szuchman (he/him)
