Greetings Lemira Family:


Let the countdown begin! We are so excited for what the 22-23 school year will bring! This year, we will continue to "Lead and Learn with Intention and Optimism as we Nurture the Success of all Students", for we are the L.I.O.N.S. Our mission is to motivate, inspire, and educate all students to be college and career ready.

Special thanks to our many families who showed up for the Back to School Bash / Grade Level Orientations! We appreciate our families and look forward to joining in partnership for the 22-23 school year!


Special Announcements

With great news, we are proud to announce the added addition to our Related Arts schedule. This year, students in grades Kind - 5th will be taught Spanish. We would like to welcome Ms. Kymberly Salas Hernandez, who will be joining our faculty as the Spanish Tutor. Lemira will the first and only elementary school in the district to offer Spanish to its students!!!


Please join me in also welcoming Ms. Sharon Benson to our faculty. Ms. Benson is a retired teacher from Lemira. She has returned to teach 2nd grade. We appreciate you, Ms. Benson, for committing to our students and families.

Updates:

1. School starts August 15th for grades 1st through 5th. Instruction begins at 7:30pm. Parents are welcomed to walk their student to class on the first day (August 15th). However, all guests will be asked to dismiss by 7:45am to allow for the instructional day to begin.


2. School starts August 22nd for grades PreK and Kindergarten. Instruction begins at 7:30am. Parents are welcomed to walk their students to class on the first day (August 22nd). However, all guest will be asked to dismiss at 7:45am to allow for the instructional day to begin.


3.Walker Bus: The walker bus will run for the 22-23 school year. The bus will pick up daily at 6:45am (Gas Station and Church). The bus will also drop off at the same designated stops. The bus driver will check addresses to verify riders.


4. Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures:


Drop off:

* Just a reminder instruction begins daily at 7:30am. Gates will open at 6:50am.

* If a student arrives after 7:30am, the parent is asked to park and sign the student in through the front office.

* For safety cautions, parents will be able to walk students to class only on day one.


Pick Up:

* Car RIders will be given tags. Some parents have already picked up their tags during the Bash. Please display your tag number in the window so staff can appropriately match the student to the car tag number.

* For safety reasons and to ensure the flow of traffic, we ask that parents please remain in their cars and drive through the car loop. Please bear with us as the first week of school usually brings about heavy traffic.

* For safety reasons and to ensure the efficiency of our pick up process, parents will not be allowed to walk up to the gate to retrieve a student.


5. Breakfast and Lunch will be served daily.

* Due to the federal guidelines covered under "CDC Healthy Schools", students will not be allowed to receive outside food, unless already in their packed in lunch boxes, for lunch. All schools in the Sumter School District will be abiding by the CDC guidelines.


6. Communication Folders: Communication folders will be sent home daily. Please check each day and return. The first day of school, students will bring home the "Student and Parent Handbook", along with several papers to sign. Please sign and return.


7. FERPA Letter: At Lemira, we love to showcase the work and achivements of our students. If you are wishing for your student to not be shown on any social media sites, displayed in our yearbook, etc., a district FERPA letter will come home explaining procedures.
