Club Information
Mindful Mornings Club
Student enjoyed participating in the Mindful Mornings Club. The club was lead by parent volunteer & yoga instructor, Ms. Courtney. This club encourages student attendance and for them to learn and practice yoga. It also helps with social and emotional learning. Yoga has great physical health benefits by building strength and flexibility, and also has social emotional health benefits by helping with self-control and anxiety.
After each club meeting, the students were relaxed, focused and ready to start their school day.
Military Pride Club
We are excited to start our Military Pride Club. This club is a K-5 council of students who have parent(s) or grandparent(s) that are currently serving in the military or have served in the military (Active Duty, Reserve or Guard all welcome).
This club is designed to make connections & friends with other military kids, conduct service through Service Projects/Acts of Kindness, providing resources to military families as needed, have support for self and others and leadership skills. The club plans to meet once a month on Friday mornings from 7:15 a.m.-7:45 a.m. Please contact Ms. Orozco if you have any questions at naomi.orozco@nisd.net.

Hobby is focused on health professions, health science and healthcare through hands-on experiences and cross-content Project Based Learning (PBL).
Students will have to apply to get accepted to one of the magnet schools. Each school will host a fair and provide tours to students and families. Application closes on January 16 and acceptance e-mails will be mailed on January 26.
Counselors In The Classroom
Students had the oppurtunity to discuss making healthy choices and identifying things that are healthy & unhealthy. They were able to share things that they can do to stay active, healthy, etc. They also shared at least one food that they are willing to try.
Discussion Questions:
1) What are your favorite foods?
2) Why is it important to eat healthy?
3) Why is it important to try new things?
Students had the opportunity to discuss what it means to have self-esteem by reading the book Zero by Kathryn Otoshi. Zero is a number who feels she doesn't have any value. Zero tried to change herself so that she was more like the other numbers, but it did not work. When Zero looked at herself in a more positive way, she realized that she did have value and she could count. Students created their own Zero with pictures and words about their favorite things about themselves and things they are good at to love themselves, and increase their self-esteem.
BE KIND!
No Name Calling Week!
Northside ISD will celebrate this special week on January 16-19, 2024. No name calling week was inspired by a young adult novel entitled The Misfits, by popular author, James Howe. The book tells the story of four best friends who grow tired of the constant teasing in their middle school, and decide to run for student council on a "No Name-Calling" platform.
At Colby Glass Elementary School, we recognize the importance of building empathy, teaching respect and kindness to our students and note the impact words can have on their well being. We are excited to launch No Name Calling Week and by showing kindness and respect to all, we can make our school a better place to be!
"KINDNESS IS A GIFT THAT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD TO GIVE." -UNKNOWN
RELAXATION TIME
It is very important that we are taking care of ourselves in stressful times. Self-care, activities used to maintain a healthy relationship with ourselves should be implemented into our daily routine. By giving yourself permission to maintain balance in your life, you are essential saying that it is ok to be well. Remember self-care is no longer a luxury-it is a necessity.
