Frog Pond Elementary
Volume 3 23-24
Seasons Greetings Frog Pond Families,
The Holiday season is upon us, and our Frog Pond student council is hosting a food drive for December.
We look forward to seeing you all at the chorus and band concert on 12/13 and the very popular PTO events: Cookies & Milk with Santa and the PTO Elf Shop.
Fall parent/teacher conferences are right around the corner. These days are ½ day student dismissal on December 6th (Evening), 7th (Evening), and the 8th (Afternoon). This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their academic progress, ask questions or address concerns. I encourage every parent to attend if possible.
During this holiday season, my wish for each of you is that you enjoy the people in your lives, enjoy the holidays, and have a Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Thomas P. Denning
Principal

Our 4th Graders Learn about Veterans
Students in Mrs. Dancisin, Mrs. Mousaw and Mrs. Pirchio's classes interviewed family members who are Veterans. A special thank you goes out to the families of Ellie, Liliana, Jianna, Carmello, and Kyleigh for your interviews! Ellie interviewed her aunt, Laura Farrelly of the US Army National Guard, and her uncle, Chris Farrelly, of the US MARINES. Kyleigh interviewed her Uncle, Dennis Lucey, of the US Army. Carmelo interviewed his grandfather, Charles Spagnuolo, of the US Navy, Jianna interviewed her father, Remon Soliman, of the US Air Force and formerly the US MARINES. Jianna's dad came to our classroom for a special visit on Friday. Thank you, Veterans, for your service to our country!
Veterans Day Celebration
Thank you to our Veterans for spending their morning at Frog Pond and sharing their stories with our 6th grade students. Your service is appreciated!
Fifth Grade honors the Veterans
Fifth grade classes honored the veterans in their families by creating a Star Heroes Poster. Students brought in stars with their family member's name, military branch, and any other information they chose to include. Some also included pictures. The students were excited to learn about all of the military members they have in their families. The fifth grade at Frog Pond Elementary thanks each and every one of them for their military service.
News from our Student Government
Our student council did an amazing job with the Veterans' Day Assembly! Thank you to all veterans who attended and everyone who helped. Next up, we will be collecting food to help replenish the local food bank after Thanksgiving. Please send in nonperishables, and we will stop at homerooms to collect it.
News from Mrs.Borer's Class
The students in Mrs. Borer's class read about the true story of the Puppeteer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade through the eyes of the creator himself Tony Sarg from the book “Balloons Over Broadway” Her students created their own balloon design and wrote a descriptive writing piece describing their balloon creation. Oh, the places they will go…
Storytime with Mr. Denning
Mrs. Saunders's class enjoys a story read by our Principal, Mr. Denning
We love READING!

Learning about Terrapins
Did you know turtles on the road should always be moved in the direction they are headed? Mrs. Simoncini has 5 turtles in her room. Unlike last year, this year's turtles are just starting to eat and grow (she set a record for biggest turtles last year). Her students look forward to feeding her turtles and helping her weigh and measure them.

Mrs.Costello and Mrs. Randall's STEAM Class
In STEAM the 3rd and 4th graders read the book Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet. In the story they learn about the story of Tony Sarg, a puppeteer, and how he uses engineering skills to create balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The students are making their own balloons or floats and using the green screen to put them in the parade. In 5th grade the students had a challenge to build the tallest tower that holds a pumpkin on top. The 6th graders are starting projects in TinkerCAD that will be 3D printed.
