Superintendent's Message 10-18-23
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS families,
It's #BeatSouth Week! This is my first year attending the big game with our friendly rivals across the tracks. I am looking forward to a great game. What makes this game even more special is the Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services SOUPer Bowl winner will be announced at halftime. CRS is the big winner Friday as hundreds of area families will benefit from the generous donations made to the food pantry. Monetary online donations are still being accepted. Every $1 donated equals 5 lbs. of food. Thank you for your support. Click here to donate. GO SHOREMEN!
We continue to spread the word regarding our Building ALegacy project. For those who have missed any of the information, please click here for more details and the facts regarding Issue 11. If you have any questions regarding our school district or Issue 11, please reach out to me.
Reminder, the time for the Nov. 7 meeting of the Board of Education (BOE) has been moved to 5 p.m. so we can host our Parent Information Night (details in flyer below). Nov. 7 is also Election Day. If you are unsure of your polling location, what to bring to the polls, or voting hours, please go to the Lorain County Board of Elections website, click here.
Congratulations and good luck to our Marching Shoremen! The ALHS band is heading to the upcoming State competition, Oct. 28 at Hilliard Bradley High School.
Thank you again for your continued support of our schools.

School closings, weather conditions information
When it becomes necessary to close Avon Lake City Schools due to inclement weather or other causes, the SchoolMessenger system will be used whenever possible.
We will be sending telephone calls and text messages to parents, students and staff through SchoolMessenger. If you have not yet signed up to receive text messages through SchoolMessenger but would like to, please refer to the flyer below for complete instructions on how you can sign up.
Please continue to monitor the local radio and television stations, as they are also contacted requesting they include Avon Lake City Schools on their school closing lists.
School closings are also posted on our district website, www.avonlakecityschools.org
Parents and students are reminded not to call schools or school officials with questions about school closings. Normally, the decision to close school is made between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.
In the winter months, we strongly recommend that parents provide hats, gloves, waterproof boots and snow pants for their children and require them to wear them during recess. Outside temperature and wind chill are taken into consideration to determine outside recess each day during the winter months. Normally, if the wind chill factor is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit, students will be permitted outdoors.
