A Few Words from the Principal
This week MTMS was awarded a $2000 School Spotlight Grant from the USD 232 Education Foundation to build our own podcast studio to allow us to tell our story.
This podcast studio will provide our students with the real world opportunity to tell their stories and the stories of Monticello Trails Middle School while learning how to positively engage with social media. Building communication skills, digital citizenship, and community connections are skills that this studio will also focus on building in our students.
Thank you USD 232 Education Foundation!
Stay tuned for more information and podcasts coming soon.
Take care!
FANS OF THE GAME
We’d like to recognize the following fans for displaying energy, enthusiasm and sportsmanship during athletic events this year. It’s been a great start. We appreciate their positive impact on the events they’ve attended.
Kaden U., Garrett H., Matthew G., Sam T., Nathan R., JJ F., Cooper W., and Josh C.
Dropping something off for your student
However, there are times that students do not listen to the announcements and they do not stop by the office.
To help assure that students get items dropped-off for them, please remind them that if they ask you to bring something for them that they need to listen for their name over the intercom during passing period and to come to the office and pick up what was dropped off.
Any items not picked up during the day will remain in the office for the student to pick up the next day.
Attendance Reminders
Absences must be reported by calling our absentee line or through the online reporting form. Please report absences as early as possible, as well as if your child has an appointment in the morning and will miss first hour. You do not need to report an absence if your child has an appointment later in the day and you will be signing them out.
A reminder that this year, parents/guardians (or other previously authorized third parties) must come into the office to sign out their students. To minimize the amount of class time a student misses, we will not pull students from class early and have them waiting in the office. Parents/guardians are not required to sign students back in when they return to school from an appointment.

Wolf Nation: Thank you very much for backing Monticello Trails at our last restaurant fundraiser! We raised a wonderful $600 with our local Kansas City born and bread partner, Goodcents. PTA greatly appreciates your assistance while we work to re-build a budget to support our educators, staff and scholars post-pandemic. So, mark your calendars for our next event at another KC staple, Jose Peppers at 435 & Midland all day, on Taco Tuesday, September 26th for dine-in or carry out with 20% of participating orders going back to MTMS. We're excited to announce that our annual Book Fair Week is just around the corner, taking place from September 18th to 21st! For this fair, eWallets can be created to make the shopping experience even more convenient for both students and teachers. Students can create eWallet accounts for cashless transactions during the fair, ensuring a smooth and efficient way to explore the world of books. Additionally, ELA teachers now have eWallets as well, and families can make contributions to support the expansion of classroom libraries.
Here's the schedule for shopping during Book Fair Week:
Tuesday, September 19th: 7th Grade ELA classes
Wednesday, September 20th: 8th Grade ELA classes
Thursday, September 21st: 6th Grade ELA classes
But that's not all! We're thrilled to announce a Coin Drive competition between our school halls, aimed at fostering a love for reading and giving back to our dedicated ELA teachers. Each day of Book Fair Week, we'll collect different coins: Monday for pennies, Tuesday for nickels, Wednesday for dimes, Thursday for quarters, and on Friday, any denomination. All the coins collected will be used to purchase books for our ELA teacher classrooms. The hall with the highest contribution will earn their ELA teacher a $100 bonus to buy books for their classroom library. As an added treat, the students in the winning hall will enjoy a celebration recess and popsicles at the end of the quarter.
We can't wait to see our students and teachers embrace the joy of reading during this fantastic event. Thank you for your support, and let's make this Book Fair Week unforgettable!

From Nurse K.
Seasonal Allergies
The nurse doesn’t have medication for seasonal allergies. Please give allergy medication at home. There are several over the counter brands that last 24 hours and there are eye drops specially formulated for seasonal allergies.
Immunizations
Thank you to everyone who has sent in immunization information. I will be continuing to update health records in Skyward for the next few weeks.
The Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) and the Meningococcal vaccine dose 1 are required for 7th grade students.
Please use the following link for USD 232 Vaccination Policy and Requirements
https://www.usd232.org/Page/3183
If your student has received or when he/she receives these immunizations please send documentation to the MTMS school nurse. Documentation includes-records from health care provider, copy of immunization card, or a copy of the bill with name of immunization and date received noted on the bill.
Documentation can be mailed to MTMS, faxed to MTMS, e-mailed to school nurse, or brought to the school during school hours by parents or student.
Documentation of Immunizations must be turned into the school by the 2nd Monday of October, October 9, 2023. If vaccinations are not completed, students may not attend school after that date until the required immunization is completed.
Both of these vaccinations can be given at the same time.
If you have turned in immunizations please give the nurse a few weeks to enter into Skyward.
Please contact MTMS school nurse with questions. Vaccinations on file can be viewed in Skyward Family Access under Health Info then select Show Vaccinations in the Display Options.
