Spotlighting CTE Programs Throughout the District
Comal ISD CTE Programs and Teachers Continue to Grow
CTE Automotive Technology at Canyon High
One of the oldest Career and Technical Education programs in Comal ISD is automotive technology which is offered at Canyon High School. Students gain hands-on experience inside the Cougars auto shop and earn industry-based certifications that build the foundation for careers in the automotive industry.
CTE Hospitality and Culinary Arts at Pieper High
Two high schools in Comal ISD offer hospitality, tourism and culinary arts courses as part of their CTE programs. With a focus on the management, marketing and operations of hospitality and tourism, students at Pieper High and Smithson Valley High gain the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in jobs and careers within the growing industry. These include restaurants, food and beverage services, hotels, attractions, recreational events and other travel-related services.
CTE Health Science at Smithson Valley High
One of the most popular Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at Comal ISD high schools is health science. Through health science courses, students follow a pathway to industry certifications and clinical, hands-on work experience that allows them to graduate from high school with both the skills and knowledge to begin a career in health care immediately.
CTE Floral Design at Canyon Lake High
One CTE program in particular has been quietly gaining popularity among students and it is floral design. Offered at four of Comal ISD’s high schools, Canyon High, Canyon Lake High, Davenport High and Smithson Valley High, floral design classes have seen an increase in student enrollment annually.
CTE Aviation at Davenport High
Students are building their own planes at Davenport and Canyon High Schools. That’s right, they are building planes as part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Aviation Maintenance program.
The Aviation Maintenance program of study introduces students to the occupations and education opportunities related to inspecting aircraft, maintenance procedures, air navigational aids, air traffic controls, and communications equipment to ensure conformance with federal safety regulations.
