Dear Friends
May 6, 2021
Letter from the Superintendent
Families -
“What’s the plan?” That question, more than any other, is the one students, families and staff are asking regarding the 2021-2022 school year.
To answer, we are fully moving forward and preparing for the return of all students to be in-person all day, five days per week. Our students will be in their classrooms with their teachers and peers next fall. The first day of school will be Wednesday, September 8.
We fully anticipate that guidance from federal, state and local health partners may be changing in the coming weeks and months regarding many of the COVID-19 health and safety aspects (such as distancing, ventilation and face coverings). We will adapt accordingly and over the summer district teams will work to prepare our classrooms and spaces to accommodate full, in-person enrollment. We are excited to share these next steps as we work to return our schools and classrooms to “normalcy.”
As you may have heard, we will need to pause our Summer Science & Arts Academy this summer. Please know we are fully committed to offering this program during summer 2022. Although the Academy is postponed, the need for a summer program is still evident and for this reason we are developing a shortened Summer Connections program. Summer Connections is currently being developed and will run from the end of July to mid-August at two locations, one in the north and one in the south. Please watch for specifics in the coming weeks.
In addition to Summer Connections, we will be offering our Kids' Café summer food program and our Book Café summer literacy program.
As we close out the 2020-2021 school year and more than a year of COVID-19 impacts, I want to thank you for your continued patience, perseverance, and resilience as we enter into the home stretch. With all the virtual and in-person year-end celebrations, recognition events and graduations yet to come, these last few weeks of the school year will pass quickly. I will be in touch and will share more information in the coming weeks as our plans for next year evolve.
Sincerely,
Kent

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, we join the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Each year we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.
Suicide prevention and mental health links and resources are also available at www.sno.wednet.edu/suicideprevention.
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline call 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
Class of 2021 graduation info
The goal of the Snohomish School District is to celebrate graduation in a safe environment so families can watch and cheer our graduates in this once-in-a-lifetime ceremony.
This year’s ceremonies for our Glacier Peak High School and Snohomish High School graduates will be in-person events held on Tuesday, June 15, at the Evergreen Speedway in Monroe. As you know, Glacier Peak High School and Snohomish High School graduation were tentatively planned for Monday, June 14. However, per Governor Inslee’s indoor/outdoor spectator and social distancing graduation requirements, we would not be able to accommodate all attendees and their guests at Angel of the Winds Arena or our own Veterans Memorial Stadium. As a result, we needed to find a larger, available venue. The Evergreen Speedway was available for our ceremonies on Tuesday, June 15.
Our AIM High School graduates will celebrate in-person on Thursday, June 10, at Veterans Memorial Stadium here in Snohomish.
All three of our graduation ceremonies will also be available online through live stream.
It is important that we all continue to abide by safety protocols so we can continue to enjoy the re-opening of our community and the opportunity to celebrate our students. School principals will be providing more details as we plan the celebration.
