Preschool Updates and Resources
1) No More Challenging Behavior Tip Sheet
Feeling like you have tried all approaches with your students with challenging behaviors? Never fear.... Barb O'Neil from Transforming Challenging Behavior has compiled a list of strategies and tips (when used CONSISTENTLY) that will eliminate and/or decrease challenging behavior before it even starts.

2) Preschool SDI and EC-LETRS Coming to PLAEA!
The PLAEA Early Childhood Dept. is excited to be facilitating two learning opportunities for the 2023-2024 school year. We have two foundational learning modules that we will be providing: Preschool SDI and EC-LETRS. Read below for more information!
Reminder: IQPPS standards require preschool programs to participate in specialized PD around early childhood each year.
If your preschool program is interested in attending an EC-LETRS training, you must attend this informational zoom (for our spring session).
When: Friday, March 9th, 2023; 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

4) Preschool Suspension and Expulsion Guidance
- IDOE has recently updated and released (February 9th, 2023) new Preschool Suspension and Expulsion guidance. While this is may not be new information to the majority of district preschool programs (unless you are a new admin/teacher) some of the verbiage in the guidance has been changed/updated.
- This guidance applies to all Statewide Voluntary Preschool Programs (SWVPP's) - which encompasses all PLAEA district preschools.
Please be aware of how this guidance impacts your preschool program and students.
5) Focus 2023 Summer Learning Conference
There will be amazing keynote speakers: Dr. Lori Desautels, Tiffany Lanier, and Alexander Hardy.
There are over 25 unique breakout sessions on a variety of topics including - Social Emotional Learning, the science of reading, working with students with challenging behavior, math strategies, Future Ready, early childhood support strategies and supporting adult mental health.
All attendees will receive a gift bag that includes the book Connections Over Compliance by Dr. Lori Desautels. Schools that bring 5 or more staff members will also receive the newly released book by Dr. Desautels, Intentional Neuroplasticity: Moving our Nervous System and Education System Toward Post-Traumatic Growth.
This conference will be packed full of great learning, vendors, wonderful food, and the beauty that is Storm Lake. Registration is open for everyone on February 14 (Happy Valentine's Day)! We hope to see you and all of your schools at this great learning opportunity.

Professional Learning System (PLS) for ACHIEVE:
The PLS will help you learn how to use the features of ACHIEVE. It is organized into sections. Each section contains topical mini-modules that include videos, written descriptions, and opportunities to practice the ACHIEVE functions addressed in the mini-module. To access the PLS log into ACHIEVE and click on the PLS tab at the top of the screen.
