We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear FJVD Families,
The school community returned from Christmas recess just over one week ago, and we have certainly jumped right back into things! With our Glow Dance and Singing Saints performance at the Providence Bruins this weekend, plus Catholic Schools Week and our Annual Auction right around the corner, there's lots to do at Fr. Doyle!
Invitations are being mailed out to all parents this week for this year’s “Calypso Night” Silent/Live Auction, which will be held Saturday, March 28, 2020, 6:30pm—10:30pm at Harbor Lights in Warwick. This is our school’s biggest fund raiser of the year, and we hope you can join us! To date, our Auction Committee has over $10,000 in Auction Items, with more items to come. Plus, the evening will include live music by “The Calypso Clergy” featuring Fr. Woolley, Fr. Lee, Mr. Peloquin and Mrs. Skidds! Last year’s Auction sold out, so purchase your tickets soon!
Do you work for or frequent a business, such as a restaurant, dry cleaner, golf club, gym, dance studio, etc., that could donate a product or service to the auction? Perhaps you do not have a product or service to donate, but still want to support the school? You can also purchase ad space in the auction’s program. Your purchase will benefit the school, while also advertising your businesses to both our school and Church communities. It is a great opportunity to spread the word! Please call the school or contact Fr. Woolley if you’d like to learn more.
Additionally, please note that our second round of STAR Testing for students in grades K-8 will begin Monday, January 13th. These approximately 25-30 minute online tests are administered three times per year and provide teachers with a snapshot of what students know and are ready to learn. This data then helps inform instruction to meet the individual needs of each student. In order to assist parents in understanding the data collected by these tests, a brief video tutorial on how to interpret the STAR Parent Report will be included our weekly Newsletter in the coming weeks.
Lastly, Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday, January 26th! We are really looking forward to this week that celebrates the beautiful gift of Catholic education! We will kick things off with our Opening Mass at 11:30am on Sunday - featuring the Singing Saints choir - followed by our Open House from 12:30-2:30pm. All students are encouraged attend Mass wearing their school uniforms. Also, in order to help promote our Open House we have created a brand new About Us video which can be viewed below. It highlights just a few of the great things happening at Fr. Doyle! We hope you enjoy it and share it!
Wishing you a restful and enjoyable weekend!
God Bless & Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin

Volunteer Opportunities
Fr. Doyle School is looking to participate in the First Lego League Junior Expo in March...
...but we can't do it without your help! In order to participate, we are currently asking for volunteers to coach Lego League Jr. team(s). A First Lego League (FLL) Junior team is made up of 4-6 students ages 6-10. Teams meet once per week for 1-2 hours to prepare their projects for the FLL Junior Expo. This year, teams will be using pre-ordered Lego robotics kits to build safe, happy, and healthy communities. Entries are then judged at the expo. Coaches do not need any robotics, computer, or engineering experience, and scheduling can be flexible. If you would be interested in volunteering, please contact the school! You can find more information about FLL Junior here.

The Nurse's Corner
The flu is now considered widespread in RI. Even in the event that it does not entirely prevent infection, the vaccine does help lessen the symptoms and may prevent worsening symptoms. The RI Department of Health wants everyone to know that it's not too late to vaccinate!
At school, the best solution to preventing the flu spreading is GOOD HAND WASHING! There are germs everywhere and many are spread through the air and land on our desks. Keeping hands washed and AWAY from the face will help prevent the spread of the flu and other illnesses. We are also taking extra precautions including cleaning desks and disinfecting toys regularly.
Please encourage your children to always wash their hands or use sanitizer before eating and especially after using the bathroom.

Aluminum Can Tab Collection
What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected
Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence
How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.
Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up
Father John V. Doyle School to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
