Principal's Message

Tuesday October 18 is a minimum day for students. Our schools are continuing our Instructional Leadership Team work with an emphasis on anti-bias/anti-racism within our practices. We appreciate your support of this important work.

Please join me for Coffee with the Principal on October 19 from 8:15-9 in Room 24. I look forward to meeting families in person and hearing from you!

Extended Supervision for Early/Late Reading Groups

Thank you all for your patience as we have worked out some of the logistics related to the supervision for students during early/late reading periods.

Please make sure both your child and your child's teacher know the plan for your students after school. Early readers who are not attending the extended supervision period will be dismissed out the main doors at 1:50. Late readers should arrive at school either at 8:15 to join the group directly to the Cafeteria, or arrive at 9:05.

Students who are being unsafe or not responding to adult instructions during this optional program may not be allowed to participate. Please remind your students to be safe and follow instructions in the Cafeteria from all of our supervising teachers.

Great Shakeout - Earthquake Drill 10/20/22

The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority. To provide schools an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, our district Superintendent has asked all students and staff to participate in a District-wide emergency preparedness drill on October 20, 2022 at 10:20 a.m. Please be advised that students will be dismissed at the regular time on this day.

The goals of the training drill are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. They allow us to evaluate our emergency operations plan and improve our response skills. As part of the drill, the students and staff will participate in the activation of our school’s Comprehensive Site Safety Plan.

In order to protect students, in case of an actual emergency students will only be released to the parents and/or other guardians listed on the student’s Emergency Card. Please ensure that this card has updated and accurate information. It is a good idea to have several trusted adults listed on the card, and consider one or two who live within walking distance of school. You should assume that in an actual emergency, telephone communication may not be possible, and so you should discuss with your family a meeting place and reunification plan in advance with anyone listed on the student’s Emergency card.

In the event of an actual emergency, any approved emergency contact person should do their best to bring identification and should first come to the Request Gate to request the student. While the student is located, the adult will be directed to the Reunion Gate to meet their child and sign them out. This procedure is designed for your child’s protection and for your peace of mind.

Prior to the drill, please discuss your family’s home preparedness plan with your student(s). The American Red Cross has outstanding materials. You can obtain Red Cross materials are available in English or in Spanish from their web site: http://www.redcross.org or by calling your local chapter at Tel. 1-800-733-2767.

Halloween Parade/Costumes

We are planning a Halloween Parade for October 31 - more information will be coming next week. Students who are planning to wear a costume should observe the following rules: any make-up, hair coloring spray, etc. must be applied prior to arriving at school. Masks that cover the entire face or costumes covering the entire face are not allowed. Weapons (plastic, real, or any items resembling a weapon) will not be allowed. Please keep in mind that any costumes must be appropriate for school, meaning they are respectful to yourself and to others. Remember we have Preschoolers and Kindergarteners in our community -- Save the very scary costumes and makeup to enjoy Halloween night.

LOST AND FOUND - Pick up by 10/31

Our lost and found collection is growing - please come take a look soon. Items that have not been claimed after 10/31 will be donated. In this fall season, there are lots of students wearing sweatshirts and jackets - please make sure items have your child's/family's name.
