Counselor's Corner
From Ms. Hilton and Ms. Shade: Sept. 30, 2023
- It’s hard to believe that we have finished our first month of school, and we enjoyed having our first classroom counseling lessons of the year! In pre-k and kindergarten, we read, “A Little Scribble Spot” and introduced the students to our feeling’s spots, and in 1st grade reintroduced the feelings spots with “A Little Spot of Feelings: Emotion Detective”. In our 2nd grade classes we read “A Little Spot Needs Feelings” and discussed what feeling’s spots help with calming down. Third grade students read “A Little Spot Emotion Coach” and learned about the D.I.C.E training drill (Deep breathing, Identify emotion, Choose a helpful reaction, Explore why the feeling happened)—consider practicing this new strategy with your student! In 4th grade we read “A Little Spot of Positive Thinking” and in 5th grade we read “A Little Spot of Honesty”.
- CCPS Student Services is having a Mental Health Fall Festival on October 10th from 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm at Calvert High School. This is a family-friendly event with food trucks, face painting, games, and more.

- October 9th (2 hours), November 10th (5 hours), and February 16th (3.5 hours) are for our teachers to schedule parent teacher conferences. This is a change from our past practices where the time is divided over 3 days. Please know that our teachers must prioritize their conferences based on student needs. Your child's teacher will initiate the conferences as the dates approach. All families will be offered a conference time by the February 16th date. Our goal is to always meet with every family at least once per year.
