TUNE SQUAD - ATHLETICS!
Why Hello FamBam,
I would like to take this time to congratulate both Coach Block and Coach Monroy on fantastic soccer seasons even amidst a pandemic and craziness all around. Coaches, thank you so much for your commitment to our athletes and providing them the best possible season we could.
A HUGE shout out to our girl’s soccer team for clinching the first ever playoff berth in our school’s history. Your LVLA Lions girls soccer team will play their first ever playoff game on May 22 and I am excited to see how they perform on the pitch. Also of note, this squad has now won back to back championships too. They were Co-Champs last year and Outright League Champs this year. Show them some love when you can.
Congrats again to Coach Block and Coach Monroy on a wonderful season. With that said, for all you athletes and prospective athletes, make sure to handle your grades with finals coming up so you can start the new school year off right. Handle your classes as we head toward the finish line.
Take it easy,
Coach

Hi Lions,
We are closing in on the finish line for the school year. That is why it is so critical that you have PERFECT ATTENDANCE the NEXT TWO WEEKS.
Every day, every class, every assignment, and every bit of participation counts. So make it count and finish strong!
Go LIONS!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Our 2020-2021 school attendance goal is 98.5%. We are almost there! Logging on to every class isn't enough. Be a trendsetter. Turn on your mics and cameras. You must participate and engage with your teachers and classmates. And make sure you complete and submit ALL your assignments because that will help your score too!
Please remember to call the school if you ever have access, technology, or connection issues.

Self-Mastery - Unlocking Your Full Potential
Ways to Level Up Your Life! Things you can start learning NOW!
JUST DO IT.
1. Learn to Make a Phone Call. Most teens, and even young adults, are so accustomed to texting that the art of the phone call has completely evaporated as a skill set. There’s a good chance you have appointments, so offer to be the one that schedules it. Nowadays, it is all about texting, so a phone call can seem intimidating, but try one and begin getting used to it!
2. Read for Fun. Guide your own reading and learn to discuss the ideas encountered in your reading. This is an essential life skill. Set aside some time to read on your own and then share what you have read and learned.
3. Manage Your Time. In college and the workforce you are expected to manage your own time and make your own schedules, so begin practicing now by creating your own schedule for the day. At the end of each day, review how well the schedule worked and make changes for the next day. You can use a printable daily schedule or use your device.
4. Writing a Professional Email. This is a 21st century writing skill. Practice writing an email to communicate with people who aren’t in your social circle.
5. Plan Your Meals, Shop for Food, and Cook! Sure, anyone can fry an egg! But knowing how much eggs cost, whether you can afford them, and when and where to buy them so they’re in the fridge when you need them takes it to another level. Plan your family’s meals for the week, then review the expense for the groceries. Help prepare meals. Factor in nutrition and learn how to store and use leftovers.
People That Changed the World
MELATI AND ISABEL WIJSEN
Activists and Founds of Bye Bye Plastic Bags
A staggering 10 percent of all marine plastic pollution comes from the island nation of Indonesia. Sisters Melati and Isabel Wijsen set out to change all that when they were only 10 and 12 years old. They started a campaign to get plastic bags banned from Bali, the country’s main tourist hub. The sisters founded an NGO called Bye Bye Plastic Bags and went on to speak out at the United Nations in New York about the dangers of plastic bags. They successfully petitioned the government to ban the bags—as well as other single-use plastics such as straws and styrofoam—in 2019. Today, they’ve expanded their focus to the entire world. Bye Bye Plastic Bags has teams in more than 50 locations across the globe and has spoken at 450 events and to 100,000 students.
