CONGRATULATIONS
Sports
For the first time in Cocoa Football history, the Tigers finished as the #1 ranked football team in the State of Florida regardless of classification. This achievement is both historic and monumental!
Varsity football is currently 9-1. We have home field advantage throughout the playoffs which take place during the next 4 weeks. The first playoff game is 11/10/2023.
Boys Golf
Our Boys Golf team had an unbelievable season, they finished 10-1. They were the District Runner-up, and this was the first time in school history. They finished 9th at the Regional Tournament.
Jade Hedren, Girls Golf advanced to the Regional Tournament and did well.
Our MS Boys Basketball finished in the top 8 amongst all teams. They advanced to the playoffs but lost to a very good Stone MS team.
Culinary
Congratulations go out to five exceptional Year 1 & 2 Culinary Students who received recognition of success from the Space Coast Restaurant and Lodging Association. The Annual Rose Awards were held at the Hilton Garden Club Hotel in Cocoa Beach on November 2, 2023. The awards dinner and ceremony that followed awards exceptional employees who are recognized for exceptional work ethic and professionalism beyond what is expected of them. Space Coast Restaurant and Lodging Association has recognized Cocoa High Culinary for the 2nd year in a row. Health and Wellness
Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine
During the October meeting with the medical students from Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, the medical students taught seniors how to suture. One of my students even successfully completed internal stitching! We meet with the medical students each month. Each monthly meeting is focused on a different topic. Students are able to learn a new skill, ask medical related questions, and meet a variety of medical professional through our partnership with Burrell.
Photos from our UCF tour of the Health Science programs. The Kinesiology department set up 5 hands-on stations where my students learned about reaction time, balance/hand-eye coordination, used a hand dynamometer to assess hand grip strength, explored their pain tolerance, and learned how to properly rate an arms overhead squat. We were also able to take a tour of the athletic departments and see the indoor football practice field! A special thanks goes out to my health science content specialist, Jenny King. She won our Health & Wellness Academy a large grant which allowed us to pay for a charter bus for this field trip. It also paid for several 3D Z-Space laptops that my students are able to use, as well as purchased the entire Health & Wellness Academy student's medical scrubs.
