Stanwood High School Vision Statement
Stanwood Spartans are united in cultivating character, modeling respect, teaching leadership and connecting to community.
A Message About the Importance of Sportsmanship at Games/Events
To Families and Students,
Thank you for being invested in our Stanwood High student-athletes. As we begin the winter sports season, we’d like to remind everyone of the spectator expectations at athletic events. We strive for an athletic culture that begins with sportsmanship and character. We encourage all spectators to support the players, coaches, officials, and event personnel — and enjoy the game!
SPECTATOR EXPECTATIONS
Be kind and respectful to EVERYONE on the court, mat, or in the pool. There is a shortage of coaches, officials, and event staff, without which our athletic programs couldn’t operate. We ask that you practice kindness, follow directions, and respect others.
Leave coaching to the coaches. It creates a negative situation for our student-athletes when spectators coach from the stands. If you have questions or comments for coaches, please reserve them for a scheduled meeting.
The use of vulgarity, profanity, or noisemakers is prohibited at all times. Negative words can create a negative environment for players and spectators of all ages. The use of noisemakers is prohibited by the WIAA.
Be an advocate for positivity. Cheer for our team only; do not call out opponent names or numbers. If you see or hear anything offensive, please report it to the nearest event personnel to address it promptly.
If a spectator is unable to adhere to the expectations set forth by the District, they will first be issued a warning. If the behavior continues, an administrator will ask them to leave, and gameplay may be suspended until they are removed from the premises. Once removed, they will be unable to attend the next home athletic event. A parent meeting with an administrator will be requested prior to the return. This applies to all Spartan spectators attending home and away events.
Here are a couple of additional reminders for entering home events at SHS:
Students must present their ASB card for entry (not a picture)
Booster Club members must show Passes for entry
No outside food or drink
No student re-entry
No bags/backpacks
No sports equipment, such as balls
We look forward to seeing you in the stands. Remember, be loud, be proud, and be positive!

You Are Not Alone
The Snohomish County Youth Suicide Prevention Taskforce is hosting a youth suicide prevention event February 3rd, 2024 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo. Although this is not a Stanwood-Camano School District program, we want to share this opportunity with our families.
There will be workshops, resources, art, therapy dogs and more. We hope to provide much support. Please see the attachment below for additional information, including registration.
Claus for a Cause - Giving Event
Claus for a Cause is a charity event hosted by the Stanwood ASB
to spread holiday cheer throughout the community.
This event will take place at the High School on Wednesday, December 13th from 5 - 8pm. We’re asking students, parents, and other members of the community to
come and donate clothing and pet supplies.
We’re accepting any and all sizes of washed shirts, sweaters, jackets, pants, hoodies, etc.
Please refrain from bringing used undergarments.
However new, unopened undergarments would be greatly appreciated!
Pet supplies could include toys, leashes, collars, grooming supplies, and (unopened) pet food.
The collected items will be donated to the Cocoon House homeless shelter and
N.O.A.H. pet shelter.
Along with the donation drive, we will have a holiday movie playing, felt tie blanket making, and other fun games and activities! We can’t wait to see you there!
*This is an ASB event and not school sponsored*
Is your student struggling? When are teachers available for assistance?
Students who are struggling are strongly encouraged to ask their teachers for assistance. Teachers are available for extra support from 7:10 am to 7:40 am and 2:10 pm to 2:40 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and 8:30 am to 9:00 am and 2:10 pm to 2:40 pm on Wednesdays. Students should work with teachers to schedule time.
Staff By Department
Attendance (EVERY DAY COUNTS)
We understand that students miss school for various reasons, many of which cannot be predicted or prevented. However, research shows that missing even 10 percent of school, or about 18 days in a year, can negatively impact a student's performance.
If your child is experiencing mental, emotional, or physical health issues that result in excessive (more than two in a month) or long-term absences, please get in touch with their counselor, the school nurse, or an administrator for assistance.
When students are absent, it is essential to excuse your students' absences within 72 hours of the student's return to school.
Please use the below process:
- Parents and guardians may excuse absences by calling the attendance secretary at 360-629-1305, through Absence Notification using their Family Access password, by emailing kmccurry@stanwood.wednet.edu, or by sending a note to the attendance office with the student.
- Messages on notes, voicemail, or email should include the first AND last name of the student, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and the parent or guardian's signature.
- Stanwood High School defines excused absences as due to illness, appointment, or family business.
- If the student has classes at Stanwood High School AND Lincoln Hill High School, you must contact BOTH schools to excuse absences.
When to stay home if sick?
The Stanwood-Camano School District follows the COVID-19 guidance for schools and child care from the Washington Department of Health.
We adhere to infectious disease prevention strategies as part of everyday operations, and we are prepared to implement additional disease prevention strategies if there is an outbreak of any respiratory illnesses, including flu and RSV.
The current emphasis is on students or staff staying home when sick. Please view our When to Stay Home webpage for more details about what symptoms to monitor. The webpage also includes the state Department of Health’s updated guidance on making decisions around COVID exposure and illness.
Additionally, each school building has masks and COVID tests available to anyone upon request.

WESCO Spectator Guidelines & Sportsmanship Code
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in interscholastic athletics are embodied in the concept of seven core principles: sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, dedication, and respect. To demonstrate sportsmanship in the stands, we ask all spectators to adhere to these 5 basic guidelines:
- I will appreciate all good plays and players, whether they compete for my team or my opponent.
- I will remember that school athletics are an extension of the classroom and that learning is taking place.
- I will be positive and use respectful language towards players, coaches, officials, and other spectators.
- I will respect the abilities and sensitivities of our opponents and officials, regardless of the outcome of the contest.
- I will remember that my actions reflect on others, including students, school, and the community.
