Principal's Message
Welcome to week 3,
Midyear Reports
Thank you for your patience as we transition to HERO for reporting this year. Next week on HERO you will be able to access your child's English, Reading and Mathematics achievement in relation to expected learning levels. Learning posts will also become visible, these are samples of work and learning reflections your child has made this year.
Student/Parent/Teacher Goal Setting Conferences.
On Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd August we will be having conferences. You will be able to discuss your child's learning with the teacher and your child will lead setting a Key Competency goal.
Op Shop
It is disappointing that it looks like we will have to withdraw from the Op shop. Last year we received $12,000 which we were able to spend on student learning equipment, sports equipment and in other areas to support our students. As a school we have until next week to make our final decision, if you are able to assist please let the office know. We have 3 shifts per month- either a full day shift or half day with two people on at a time. Currently we only have 4 volunteers.
Board of Trustees- Nominations
Nomination forms are available on HERO or you can get a copy at the school office. These are due back on the 17th August. Please consider nominating yourself or someone, if you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Speeches and Poems
Year 0-3 will be doing Poem recitals this term
Year 4-8 will be doing Speeches this term.
St Joseph's Playgroup
On Thursday mornings from 9:00 -10:30 we welcome preschoolers and parents/caregivers to come along to a playgroup in Room 1 (Rimu). This is to assist with getting children ready to school and for potential enrolments to see what we are about at St Joseph's. We have a couple of local daycares that come along on rotation and we extend the invite to our school community as well.

Garage Sale
Students in Term 2 identified that they would like to start fundraising to build an orchard house (playhouse). As part of their learning they came up with many ways they could raise funds. The first one they would like to have is a Garage Sale. We will be having it on Saturday 20th August, 8.30am to 11am in the car park behind Barden Legal.
Students are able to start bringing things in for this sale now - please bear in mind if you are donating bigger items we do not have much storage so would appreciate these items delivered on the day or day before.
CATHOLIC CORNER
What can we do to help our local community?
Our upcoming Garage Sale is a great example of giving away stuff we don’t need and helping our community at the same time.
On August 6th we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration when Jesus appeared to some disciples in clothes of dazzling white and transformed from human to divine. It was in the practice of prayer that Jesus was transformed. Through our own prayer we can also allow ourselves to be transformed - to become more like the person Jesus wants us to be.

It is now time for children to think about acquiring an animal. Please let Mrs Choat or Jan-Marie know if your child intends to have an animal for Calf Club.
LIBRARY UPDATE - TERM 3
Welcome back to the library everyone – there are lots of new books on display to help tempt you into reading something different – or more of your favourites if preferred.
It is great to see the library being used so much, however that also means that we always have a few books that are late in coming back. We currently have quite a few that have been out since before the holidays – some as far back as MAY – and it would be wonderful to see them back on the shelves for others to read. Every student with a late book has been given a Late Notice.
Library quizzes will be offered over the next couple of weeks and then for something different I am hoping to have a Dinosaur Week in the Library. Watch this space!!
God bless and regards
Mrs Mac
