A Monthly Update from the Racial Equity Envoys of JCPS

Throughout each month of the 2023-2024 school year, faculty and staff will hear from their Racial Equity Envoy. These individuals are training and working in collaboration with the Anti-Racist Specialists of the Department of Diversity, Equity, and Poverty to ensure that the promise of the JCPS Racial Equity Policy is being carried out all across the District.

We hope that most months Racial Equity Envoys will provide EPD during a faculty meeting or other allotted times as permitted by your school's administrative team. However, at minimum, you will always receive a monthly update. The goal and purpose of these updates is to ensure that all JCPS faculty and staff can access the materials and professional learning curated for them based on District-wide trends.

Moving forward, these newsletters will take on a pattern so that you are always offered extensions of your EPD, supplemental resources in case the EPD was not delivered, monthly professional learning opportunities being offered by the Department of Diversity, Equity, and Poverty, as well as the religious observances occurring during any given month.

Prejudice Elimination

If your school's Racial Equity Envoy was able to conduct this month's EPD, you may still be experiencing confusion and/or curiosity. As clarified in the EPD, anti-racist work must begin with a deep understanding of ourselves, our positionality, and how our own experiences shape the schema we bring into all school spaces and rely on during our day-to-day interactions with colleagues, caregivers, and students.
