FRAMEWORK:
STEM Academy is a 6th–12th grade magnet program located on the campuses of Nimitz Middle School and LEE High School.
Our Academy functions as school-within-a-school model, inclusive of all academic and STEM electives teachers.
STEM Academy has been proudly serving the North East ISD community for more than 15 years.
Enrollment varies, dependent upon grade level. There are approximately 120 students per grade level in grades 6 - 12.
We offer advanced, rigorous courses at all levels across the curriculum.
In partnership with industry professionals and local colleges/universities, STEM Academy students are afforded opportunities to gain real world experience, participate in internships, and earn industry-based certifications at the high school level.
STEM CURRICULUM:
STEM Academy serves as a model for problem-based, technology-rich curriculum that empowers students and faculty to engage in small, professional learning environments where science and math serve as vehicles for discovery, innovation, and independent problem solving.
We have full technology integration available in each of our classrooms.
Wherever possible, we use information from business partners and institutions of higher education to drive our approach to the curriculum.
The middle school program is focused upon an attitude of exploration. We want students to have meaningful experiences in order to determine their passions.
The high school program is designed to align students with their selected pathway (specialization) so that they graduate with a STEM Endorsement, and work-based experience in their chosen fields.
Students will interact with professionals in their field of study.
Regardless of the level, all students will be working to develop 21st century skills inclusive of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, information literacy, media literacy, technology literacy, and flexibility.
KEEPING 'AHEAD OF THE CURVE'
STEM Celebrations
Over 90% of our STEM 8th grade students continue on to our STEM HS program.
We have specialized camps that help prepare students to succeed on PSAT/ACT/SAT tests.
There are frequent college visit opportunities. Whether on campus or off, students are frequently presented with important college information to help them make an informed decision.
Annually, STEM Seniors are identified as National Merit Scholars.
THOSE WHO PLAY TOGETHER, STAY TOGETHER!
STEM also offers opportunities for students to participate in STEM-only events such as Dodgeball, Game Nights, Field Days, and more.
We are a safe learning community building a STEM family!
