Counselor's Corner
My name is Melinda Rice and I am the school counselor. I serve all of the students, kindergarten through 4th grade, here at Ozark West. Here is a little something to help you understand my role. I am looking forward to a great school year!
A School Counselor DOES:
Work with ALL students to encourage a safe and positive school environment
Teach classroom lessons about social-emotional strategies
Facilitate small groups as needed
Meet with individual students briefly to help problem solve
Help students who are struggling with positive behavior choices
Collaborate with teachers, parents & administrators
Provide education & information about students’ social-emotional needs.
Maintain confidentiality of students UNLESS there is a safety concern
A School Counselor DOES NOT:
Facilitate therapy groups
Provide long-term mental health counseling or therapy
Handle discipline or assign consequences
Share information about students & their families
Tell teachers how to teach or parents how to parent
Absence Line
When your child is going to be absent from school, please call the Ozark West Absence Line at 417-582-5907 as soon as possible to let us know why your child is absent. Please leave your child's name, teacher name, and reason for absence. Thank you!
