Easley Weekly Update
Everything You Need to Know for the coming week.
October 18, 2021
a note from the principal
Hello Easley families,
We had a great first week back from fall break. Outdoor seating is in full effect and for the most part, minus the occasional bees and ants, I think we have a good system in place.
Onsite COVID Testing at Easley
Our onsite COVID testing at Easley, for those families who have signed-up will begin next week.
Please be reminded that this is a voluntary testing process, so a parent or guardian must register their student to participate. The link to register may be accessed in the parent letter below. Paper copies are available in the front office and will be sent home with all students upon the return to school. All testing information and results will remain confidential. I encourage our families to register their students for this free opportunity. Together, we can keep our students safe, in their classrooms, and prevent community spread.

Easley Math-querade
Our annual Easley Math-querade, a family math night, will be Thursday, October 28th from 6:00-7:00 PM via Zoom. Each grade level will be holding fun family math games. Students are invited to wear their favorite costumes. More details on how to access the Zoom links will be in next week's update and will be sent out by your child's classroom teacher on Bloomz.
We need your help!
We have noticed that our K-2 students take a long time to login into their Chromebooks, despite practicing this throughout the day. It would be really helpful if you could practice for just a few minutes each night logging in so they get proficient and efficient at doing so. This will save a lot of instructional time over the course of the school day. If you do not know your child's login information, you may reach out to the classroom teacher. Thanks in advance for any practicing you can do. I recognize it seems like a little thing, but all those minutes add up over the course of the day, week, month, and school year. I appreciate your partnership! :)
Transporting Student Chromebooks
The district requires that student devices go back and forth from school to home with students so in the event we need to switch to remote learning for any reason (weather, COVID, quarantine) students will be able to access the class and their schoolwork. We don't love this policy either and realize that it is cumbersome for our students to haul devices back and forth. We hear you and have created a form for you to fill out if you wish for your child to leave their device at school with the understanding that you have a device they can use at home to access remote learning. If you are interested in completing this form, please ask your child's classroom to teacher to send it home and you can complete the form and send it back to school. I want to reiterate that in signing this form you are stating that your child has a device at home, not that you will come to school and pick up the device in the event we go to remote learning. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Kings and Queens Affinity Groups
Many factors contribute to the wide range of challenges that students of color face while they are in school. As they learn to navigate the various parts of their lives and begin to form their identities, having a safe and nurturing space will become integral to their academic, emotional, mental and personal development. Understanding the impact of historical and current societal and cultural perspectives and approaches to addressing inequitable systems is necessary to improving the experiences of and supporting students of color in and out of schools. This year Easley will participate in the We Are Queens, We Are King programs at our school. Interest forms will be sent home this week with additional information. Please reach out to Mrs. Boggan, Mr. Bugajski, or Mrs. Hauser if you have any questions.

Duke Concessions
Duke Football Concessions have been a big fundraiser for Easley in recent years and we are partnering with them again this year. Typically, we bring in about $10,000 for the season. Sara Harrell is the PTA chair/ stand manager for this fundraiser. The time commitment for most games is approximately 6 hours. Game times that have been announced are listed with times. Times TBA will be posted as soon as possible. It's it usually am mix of parents and staff who work the games and it really is a pretty fun time and a great way to connect with other parents and staff members. If you are interested in working a game, you can sign-up HERE.
