PCK takes great pride in our character program and the undeniable impact it has on our community. As you may know, our character program centers around a monthly character trait. Using that trait, we have an assembly where we talk about the month’s new trait, teachers deliver character lessons to the students, and work to tie that character trait into classroom academics. New this year is the service project component of our character program. This is truly one of the most exciting things that has happened to our character program in a long time. This year, we have paired students up as “service buddies” to complete projects that relate to that month’s character trait. The goal is not only to reinforce the month’s character trait, but to provide an opportunity for our students to grow as leaders within their service buddy group.

Having now completed two service projects in the past two months, I have seen some amazing bonds and friendships formed between service buddies. The younger students beam with pride seeing their older service buddies around the school, and our older students have a true confidence about them being in a position of leadership and responsibility for the younger students. Students are working together to make an impact not only on the school community, but the greater Parker community as well.

This month’s character trait, compassion, will be on full display as our service buddies will be making blankets to donate to local animal shelters who are overwhelmed with animals up for adoption. Our goal is to help students understand that compassion truly is helping those who are hurting. Whether its their friends, classmates, one of the PCK community, or those beyond our school walls. We want our students to know that they can make a direct impact on those in our world with a little bit of compassion. So thank you to all those families that have brought in fabric for our service project. It will go a long way to helping teach our students the true meaning of compassion.

Finally, I want to give a big thank you to the PTA and all the volunteers that made our Fall Festival so incredible last Friday. The turn out was amazing. There were so many fun games, prizes, and rides, and I know that all the families had a blast. The PTA did such a great job putting this all together and truly put on one of the best Fall Festivals I have been to. I am again humbled at the wonderful students, parents, and community that we have at PCK and I know that as we work together, we can provide the absolute best education for our kids. Have a wonderful and safe Fall Break.

This morning, students, teachers, and staff celebrated our Cross Country team for their stellar achievements at The Legacy Invitational, with a Hall Walk! The girls team won first place as a team, and the boys team took second! In another victory, the boys soccer team defeated American Academy Lincoln Meadows 6-1. Congratulations to the members of our Cross Country and Soccer teams!

October is often associated with fall and Halloween, among many other things. But, in Douglas County Schools, it is also known for the start of Apple Award Nominations! For 17 years now, the Foundation for Douglas County Schools honors exceptional educators and staff who are inspiring a love of learning in students and are trailblazing extraordinary innovation in our schools. It's truly such a gift and a joy for our teachers and staff to receive nominations especially when they come from students, former students and their families. If there is a PCK teacher or staff member that has gone above and beyond to make your child's learning experience positive and their futures bright, please take a few moments to nominate them. The nomination window closes on November 13th. Winners will be announced at the 2023 Apple Awards Gala in April 2023.

It's that time of year where we start anticipating winter weather, which can come on suddenly. PCK follows the Douglas County School District in terms of weather delay and cancellation. DCSD has stated that... "The decision to close, delay or keep a school open during inclement weather is never taken lightly. The safety of our students, staff, and parents is always at the top of mind. Factors including snowfall, wind chill, road conditions and more are all taken into consideration."

Delays - If a 90 minute delay is called for by DCSD, PCK carpool will begin at 9:05 am. Classes will begin at 9:30 am. Core Care Club will also start 90 minutes later than normal, at 8:00 am.

Closures - When DCSD closes, school, all activities, sports, Core Care Club, and facility rentals are cancelled. Closures will be posted on the PCK website, our Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on local media outlets.

Parents, we are now gathering donations for our next character project. Specifically, we need fleece fabric in one yard sections. We are going to use it to make dog blankets for a rescue called "A Friend of Jack.'' This is an effort to practice our compassion skills. Please bring donations to the front desk at PCK.

The PTA sends a heartfelt thank you to all the parents, students and staff volunteers that made the return of our Fall Festival a roaring success. We hope everyone enjoyed reconnecting and look forward to providing some more fun activities this school year! Because of your support in attending our Spirit Nights, and your generous donations, the PTA was able to provide this delicious Chick-Fil-A meal, along with stocking snacks in the break room, to invigorate our fabulous teachers while they slave away at parent/teacher conferences!

Calling all crafters! After fall break we will be putting together a craft fair for our school community. If you are interested in hosting a booth or know someone that would, please contact the PTA at ckcspta@gmail.com. Butter Braid Sales will begin on 10/27. Look for a flyer in Thursday folders following break! Tonight, 10/13, is Colonna’s Pizza Spirit Night from 4-8! Skip the mess of making dinner and support the school! See you there!

Please note that Trunk or Treat volunteers ONLY may arrive at the school at 12:30 pm on Friday, October 28th. Other visitors are welcome to arrive no earlier than 1:45 pm.

The Lunchroom staff would like you to remember to...

• make sure that you have updated your child's grade and teacher with Wholesome Foods.
• pack silverware for your child's lunch from home, as the plasticware at the school is reserved for hot lunches only

*Please note, effective Oct. 1st, the price of milk went up 50 cents due to the rising cost of milk!

If you have bookmarked or saved the Absence Form that was used last year, please discontinue using it as a means to alert the school if your student will be absent. Please ONLY CALL the front office to report an absence.

PCK is a proud partner with Longmont Dairy’s Milk Caps for Moolah program. Please collect those milk caps, deposit them in our Milk Caps box by the front office at the school. For every cap turned in, we receive 5 cents. Just like boxtops, those milk caps add up quickly! If you have any questions, please contact PTA at ckcspta@gmail.com
