What Are We Doing This Week?
Science
Students will continue to discuss AKS 2a. Students will begin discussing AKS 2b. where they will engage in argumentation from evidence that shows understanding of how the functions of the Cardiovascular, Excretory, Digestive, Respiratory, Muscular, Nervous, and Immune Systems interact with each other to carry out life processes. Students will be completing a GIZMO. In addition to the GIZMO, students will complete a project where they will be researching how a specific disease (Wolfram Syndrome, Becker Muscular Dystrophy, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Thalassemia, or Lyme disease) affects different body systems. Students will collaborate and present their research to the class.
ELA
This week we will begin the next lesson for Unit 2: Reality Check with the article, “The Camera Does Lie”, by Meg Mess. In this informational text, we will determine the author's purpose and cite evidence to support conclusions. Please ensure that students are taking notes, participating in instruction and group assignments, complete homework and study daily, and be prepared for the quick check. The quick check is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 26th. Additionally, all Language Arts classes will have a lesson with our 7th grade counselor’s lesson with Ms. Hall.
Math
In Math, students will continue in Unit 2 of Reasoning with Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities. Students will continue with Writing, Graphing and Solving 2-Step Inequalities. Students will then venture into solving percent increase and decrease with visual models. This concept will connect to their knowledge of equations. We will also explore proportional relationships to solve real-world problems involving percentages.
Social Studies
This week in social studies class, our scholars will be working on Unit 5 (AKS 46). Students will learn how to analyze, citing evidence, that countries in Southwest Asia have a mixed economic system located on a continuum between pure market and pure command. Students will be able to compare/contrast the basic types of economic systems found in Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iran.

Dress Code Policy
As students are gaining their footing in the new school year, we would like to take a moment to address our dress code policy. Teachers will perform dress code checks each morning during homeroom. Students that do not adhere to the dress code policy will receive consequences that may include a warning, phone call home, alternative clothing (provided by the nurse) and/or ISS until proper clothing is provided. Clear backpacks are also considered in the dress code policy.
Ways you can assist:
- Have students get their clothing out the night before, and check it against the school's dress code policy.
- Speak with students about the dress code policy, about what is allowed and not allowed, and what consequences may accrue if the expectations are not followed.
- Check your student's attire before leaving home and ensure extra clothing is not stored in their backpack.
An Overview of the Dress Code Policy is Listed Below:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: Why is the school implementing a clear book bag policy? A: The school is implementing the clear book bag policy to enhance safety and security on our campus. By using transparent book bags, we can easily identify the contents of each bag, reducing the risk of prohibited items being brought onto school premises and promoting a safer learning environment for all students.
Q2: What are the advantages of the clear book bag policy? A: The advantages of the clear book bag policy include:
- Enhanced Security
- Deterrent for Inappropriate Items
- Encouraging Responsibility
- Easy Identification
- Parental Peace of Mind
Q3: What type of clear book bags are allowed? A: Any clear book bag made from transparent material (such as plastic or PVC) is allowed. The bag must be large enough to carry standard school supplies but not excessively large.
Q4: Are students required to use clear lunch bags as well? A: While it is not mandatory, we highly encourage students to use clear lunch bags for consistency and to ensure safety during lunch periods. Clear lunch bags also aid in the identification of any potential allergens or prohibited items.
Q5: Will students' personal belongings be visible to others? A: Yes, the transparent nature of the clear book bags means that the contents will be visible to others. However, we respect students' privacy, and they should not bring any personal items that they are uncomfortable sharing.
Q6: What happens if a student forgets or loses their clear book bag? A: In such cases, the school will have a limited number of spare clear book bags available for temporary use. However, it is the students' responsibility to come prepared with a clear book bag for daily use.
Q7: Are there any exemptions to the clear book bag policy? A: Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for students with specific medical or accessibility needs. Parents/guardians should contact the school administration to discuss such situations and provide relevant documentation if necessary.
Q8: Can students personalize their clear book bags? A: Yes, students can personalize their clear book bags with stickers, keychains, or other non-obstructive decorations to add a touch of individuality.
Q9: When does the clear book bag policy take effect? A: The clear book bag policy will be in effect starting from the first day of the new school year. Parents and students are expected to comply with the policy from that date onward.
We appreciate your cooperation in creating a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
