NEWSLETTER~~~~~~~~~FEBRUARY 16, 2024
LCTC Community,
As students begin the scheduling process for next year, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions about our programs. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Now that we are well underway with the second semester it is a good time to check your student's gradebook and contact teachers if there are concerns.
Parent-teacher conferences will be held March 6th from 4 PM to 7 PM. Spring conferences will be virtual. Parent-teacher conference sign-ups open on Monday, February 26th at noon and run through Monday, March 4th. Parent-teacher conferences are a great opportunity to discuss your child’s academic progress, address any concerns, and build a strong parent-teacher partnership.
Reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 19th. Have a wonderful long weekend.

CONSTRUCTION TRADES I CLASS
Construction Trades 1 students learning exterior home finishing. Installing Aluminum trim, J channel, and vinyl siding.
CONSTRUCTION TRADES II CLASS
Construction Trades 2 students are working on various jobs at the project house, like drywall repair, painting, and replacing subfloors that are damaged.
ADVANCED SPORT MEDICINE CLASS
Ms.G's Advanced Sports Medicine class utilized the new medical lab for a fun work-based learning experience with Dr. James Sweet from Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Sweet is the clinical education coordinator and an associate professor within EMU's Athletic Training Program and is also a trained orthotic and prosthetist. He taught the students how to fit and apply casts and was impressed by the student's skills as they all did a great job remembering the taping and wrapping skills that they learned in their Pre-Sports Medicine and Pre-Medicine courses last year!
GAME DESIGN CLASS
Students in Game Design learned how to create Pixel Art and Game Characters and then Animated them. They then submitted their designs to the Games for Change Student Challenge Competition's Character Design Challenge. Winners will be announced in June.
CAREER INTERN PROGRAM
Career Interns participated in some team-building activities recently in a game called TeePee Shuffle. Students had to make their way to the opposite end of an unsteady board, climbing over classmates, without falling off. They did a great job learning to work together!
ANIMATION AND WEB DESIGN CLASS
Students in Animation/Web Design have the opportunity to step into the shoes of a professional artist and create a story reel for their own 3-6 minute short film. Industry professionals guide them through the process as they learn how Pixar creates their famous animated movies.
So far, students have been onboarded to the platform, learned how to quickly create and use both a graphics program and video editing tool, created “what if” statements to guide a story idea, and learned how to give and receive feedback. Students will exhibit their work in May.
Full Sail University also joined the class for a Stop Motion workshop, where students use an editor to place images in sequence for the Coraline Movie. Full Sail is an Entertainment Arts School located in Orlando, Florida.
CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH
Is your student starting to think about life after high school? Consider a state-approved secondary career and technical education (CTE) program! CTE programs prepare high school students to have the academic and technical skills to enter, compete, and advance in their education and career fields.
Did you know...
- 95.9% of high school students enrolled in a CTE program graduated (2021-22). That’s compared to Michigan’s graduation rate of 81%.
- CTE offers students hands-on training that can be applied to real-world, in-demand education, training, and career pathways.
- CTE prepares students for high-wage, high-demand careers in fields like health care, IT, advanced manufacturing, hospitality, management & more!
- CTE programs prepare you for employment in current or emerging fields and help you obtain a high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand career.
- Students who are enrolled in CTE programs are more engaged, graduate from high school at higher rates, earn industry-recognized credentials, and have rewarding and family-sustaining careers.
- High school CTE students can potentially earn college credit or course waivers as part of a mutually agreed upon program of study between the CTE provider and the postsecondary provider. This gives students a jumpstart on earning in-demand credentials at no charge to the student in most cases.
