Here’s how it works: Pre-order produce, baked goods, honey, jam, and eggs from local vendors online Nov 27 – Dec 5. Pay online, then pick up your items curbside on Dec 11 from 11am – 1pm at the Gage County Extension office. Supporting your neighbors has never been easier!

Throughout the year we can be plagued by nuisance insect pests in the home. As much as I enjoy insects and all the benefits they bring to our lives, I loathe flies in my house. They can really be an irritation and sometimes are difficult to manage. Management of these flies, however, starts with correct identification.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 5th at 1:30 pm for cookies and hot chocolate 4-H Council fundraiser with the Achievement Celebration starting at 2:00 pm!! The celebration will take place in the 4-H Building. We will recognize:

Begin your space adventure by looking at the stars. Explore principles of light and construct a simple refracting telescope. Learn about cybersecurity and protecting our assets in space. Use a cypher wheel to decode a secret message, encrypt, and decipher words. Learn about the resources needed for space exploration and where they can be found. Design, build, and operate a robotic claw. Workshop cost - $20 All materials included in workshop fee. Please bring a sack lunch. Workshop appropriate for ages 10+. Ever wanted to design your own perfect fabric? Learn about motifs, patterns, and graphic design through this fun workshop. Design a repeat pattern to create a one of a kind fabric design. Participant's designs will be uploaded to Spoonflower and each participant will get one yard of their design printed onto 100% Cotton. Workshop fee $20. As I sit down to write this, I’m reminded of my 16-month-old by the sticky residue he left behind on my laptop keys the previous night. His name is Henry, and I’m pretty sure he was born with a controller or keyboard of some sort in his hands. He’s obsessed with the buttons and beeps that come with technology. And it just so happens that the sticky residue on his grubby little fingers provided the perfect introduction to my article this week. Thanks, Henry.

You know what I'm thankful for today? I'm thankful I wrote a decent article about Thanksgiving food safety last year. So, instead of scrambling last-minute to meet my deadline (a bad habit I hear may be a Dunker thing), I get to recycle an oldie but a goodie for your reading pleasure. Let's get back up to speed on making food safety a key ingredient from start to finish this holiday season.

The Smith-Lever Act of 1914 provided federal support for land-grant universities to establish Cooperative Extension Services.
