TO GIVE IS TO RECEIVE
Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy.
MOTHER TERESA
Joy is strength -
Joy is love -
Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls.
She gives most who gives with joy.
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
Sometimes I crave the joy of childhood. I remember how it felt to peddle your bike as fast as you possibly could and feel the wind in your hair. Sometimes, I felt brave enough to take my feet off the pedals without a care in the world. The innocence of seeing life though a child's eyes, to laugh, to sing, to play! My wish for the Orana community is to enjoy a holiday period full of innocent joy; of laughter, of play, of dance! We have had such a turbulent year and for many around the world, it continues. While walking with my husband along the beach this morning, we both reflected on how grateful we are to be in Perth, to experience freedom and a quality of life that at times we take for granted.
Have a safe and joy filled holiday, Orana family.
HOLY COMMUNION
The Year 4 cohort celebrated their First Holy Communion on the weekend. Thank you to all involved in preparing the students and to the families for participating so reverently in the services on Saturday and Sunday. It was a beautiful experience, with COVID-19 restrictions, the number of those attending was reduced. This however, provided a prayer filled and spiritual space. We have had positive feedback from families from our community and from parishioners from St John and Paul Parish. The children are invited to attend Mass this coming weekend, 6.30pm Saturday evening or 10.30am on Sunday to receive their certificates and enjoy a celebration cake together.
VISITORS TO ORANA
During the week representatives from St Mark's visited our school. It was recommended to them to come to see us as we are known to be a school that integrates technology across the curriculum at an outstanding level. Not only did our Year 4,5 and 6 students and teachers showcase our expert handling of the iPad and cross curriculum integration we showcased our schools values and beliefs. The feedback from all who attended was that our students are respectful, conversational, quietly confident and an absolute credit to us. One comment which really struck me was, you can feel the positive culture of this school everywhere you look.

Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea
Friday 23rd October at 10am outside
The Grandparents Mass and morning tea is fast approaching. We would love for as many Grandparents to attend as possible. We would also love for families to send in photos of children with their grandparents, which we will be shown on our outdoor display TV in the quad area during morning tea.
Please send the photos you wish to share to admin@orana.wa.edu.au by Monday 19th October.
Look out for a SEQTA notification at the commencement of next term requesting numbers for attendance to assist with catering. I will also be in touch with grandparents who have volunteered to take part in the mass.

Rice Cake Day
A very big thank you to everyone who contributed to Rice Cake Day. We raised $620 which will provide around 500 meals for the homeless. Thank you to the Year 6s who did a fabulous job in organising this fundraiser and to those who donated rice cakes and gave monetary donations. This is real example of GENEROSITY and RESPECT.
EXCELLENT work Orana!

The Week That Was!
P & F News
Hello Parents, Carers & Friends,
That's a wrap for Term 3! Last week we welcomed a new addition to the school in the form of wall mural art. All students had the opportunity to watch the process of creating this artwork - we hope this gave our children the opportunity to learn about the creative production process. If you haven't check it out yet, please do.
I hope you have had a wonderful time so far and enjoying the school community. Speaking of community, we are in need of volunteers to come and partake in our upcoming Early Childhood Busy Bee - Saturday 10th October, 2020.
We're adding new features in the Early Childhood Playground Area - please get involved! Contact Oranapandf@gmail.com to put your name down, and see the information flyer in this newsletter for further info.
Stay well and have a good holiday everyone!
