Treaty Day is an important day to many Tribal Nations. Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe recognizes this day as an annual holiday. As Treaty Day is important to many Tribal Nations, it is not necessarily a day of celebration but more of a day of remembrance. Tribes take this day to remember all those who fight to hold onto the land and resources during the signing of their treaties.

This day is also a day for the district to thank and honor the continual collaboration with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. Together, we walk alongside each other for the betterment of our students and our community.

We are excited and proud of our excellent educators for being Port Angeles Community Awards finalists! Please join us in congratulating Crystal Bennett, John Gallagher, and John Lorentzen! Also announced is Carmen Geyer, our Communications and Community Relations Coordinator for Citizen of the Year!

Please join us in honoring your finalists at The Gala, where our community will celebrate each of them and highlight their contributions. A winner from each category will be announced at the event, but the Gala is about celebrating ALL of the finalists.

The design phase of the Monroe Athletic Field is completed, which includes a quality synthetic turf field for soccer, football, and fastpitch. This project will also feature a quarter-mile walking path the public can use. High-performance athletic fields are a part of the necessary infrastructure in a high-quality district like Port Angeles, and we can't wait to see our student-athletes in action!

We broke the project into two bids and are now looking for bids to do the site work.

1. Site Work - We hope to hire a local company to do the ground/site work at Monroe Field. It is important to us to keep as many jobs local to support our community! To review the bid set, please visit: tinyurl.com/PASDAthleticFieldCivilWorkBid

2. Turf Work – Once site work is completed, we will hire a contracted synthetic turf company to install the field.

The anticipated completion date for the field is in the fall of 2023. If all goes to plan, this time next year, our community will have another quality athletic field! Stay tuned as we will provide more updates as things progress. This is an exciting time for our school district!

PAHS student leaders will host a job fair on February 22nd during the school day. They encourage the entire student body to attend. The PAHS job fair is a career exploration event where students learn about current job openings and discover potential career paths by engaging with local businesses.

Representatives from community businesses will talk with students about employment with their companies and answer questions. 29 businesses have already committed to sending volunteers, but there is still room for more. Any local business is welcome to attend, especially those interested in hiring a high school student or connecting with graduating seniors looking for long-term employment.

On the organizing committee, Kole Acker, a senior at PAHS, shared, "The job fair is a beneficial way for our student body to get in contact with the jobs and careers available in our community. Almost every local business needs more employees right now, making this a great way to make direct connections."

For students not currently looking for employment, the job fair creates an opportunity to learn about the industries and careers in our community. Those seeking employment will have a chance to apply and even interview on the spot. "We've had job fairs, and they have been fantastic. It's been an excellent experience for kids to get out of their comfort zone, talk to adults, and learn what an interview is like. The whole interview process helps prepare students for the real world. It's good for local employers and perfect for the kids", said Rodger Johnson, a teacher at PAHS.

Employers need employees, and high school students need jobs. This event is a win-win initiative that supports students' workforce development as well as the local economy.

Seaview Academy attended the Clallam County School Choice Fair on Saturday, January 21, to showcase our ORCA program for K-5 students and our online distance learning options for 6-12

Thanks to a generous donor, the Port Angeles Education Foundation has funds available to reimburse teachers for out-of-pocket expenditures for essential classroom materials or equipment. Recipients of the grant will be reimbursed up to $250 for items they have purchased with personal funds.

Applications are due by email to AdminDirector@PA-EF.org by January 27, 2023.

All applicants will be notified after awards are determined. Successful applicants will need to submit receipts for purchases before reimbursement is issued.

These workshops are designed for teachers, staff, and administrators.

Healthy staff and teachers are our most valuable resource for creating safe and supportive learning environments. The Way to Staff Well-being in Schools workshop series explores resources and tips to strengthen staff well-being at the individual, collective, and policy levels. Free clock hours are available.

Our foundational course, The Way to Staff Well-being in schools – Creating a Culture of Well-being, will be offered 3:30-5:00pm PST on a bi-monthly basis (repeat):
