FAC Weekly Update
February 2, 2024
Good Afternoon, FAC Family
I hope you have had a fantastic week!
It has been a busy week here at the FAC. We've turned the calendar to February, and had our first Artist Residency of 2024 with a collaborative project that involved our Theatre, Creative Writing, and Digital Filmmaking students. We also have some fantastic student accolades to share, and are approaching the ticket release date for the biggest FAC event of the year - our Elevate Showcase.
Here's the latest from the halls of the FAC...
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
10 Secrets to Success - Part Two - From Dr. John C. Maxwell
6. Learn to analyze details.
Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.
A minute of thought is worth more than an hour of talk.
- “All things are filled full of signs, and it is a wise man who can learn about one thing from another.” - Plotinus
Don’t let other people or things distract you.
“First things first, and last things not at all.” - Peter Drucker
“He did each thing as if he did nothing else.” - Charles Dickens
8. Don’t be afraid to innovate : be different
- Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity
- Look for new opportunities everywhere
- Challenge preconceived beliefs, biases, and assumptions
- Spot trends before everyone else
- Redefine goals continually
- Develop and try ideas of your own and watch for concepts you can borrow and apply from other fields
- Think long-term and persist when others decide to quit.
- Find a way to do things when the odds are against you.
- Seek both positive and negative feedback from employees, colleagues, and customers.
9. Deal and communicate with people effectively.
“No matter how much work you can do, no matter how engaging your personality my be, you will not advance far in business if you cannot work through others.” –John Craig
10. Be honest and dependable; take responsibility
Otherwise, numbers 1-9 won’t matter.

Leah Rutherford - Presidential Scholarship Nominee!
YoungArts announced the nominees for the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students who exemplify artistic and academic excellence.
Congratulations to the Fine Art Center's own Leah Rutherford, who has been selected as one of 60 candidates from across the nation and abroad on her nomination!
The nominees represent nine artistic disciplines, and all are YoungArts award winners with distinction. Leah was nominated as a vocalist after 2024 National YoungArts Week, which included classes and workshops with leading artists across each art field, performances, writers’ readings, film screenings and an exhibition. Summer Arts Intensives - Request for Financial Support
Each year, we have a number of current FAC students who choose to spend their summer months expanding their artistic horizons at a summer arts intensive program. These programs can be located locally or across the nation - for more information on recommended programs, please have your child speak with their FAC Instructor.
The FAC Partners will once again offer financial assistance to students in grades 9-11 who have been accepted into Summer Intensive Programs for their area of study at the FAC. Students who apply for financial assistance must be committed to attending the FAC next year. Recipients will be chosen first by financial need (as determined by P.I.P. status) and then by merit (Grade Point Average), with teacher input into the student's performance also being a factor. You will need to provide proof of acceptance into the program/camp (email or hard copy) along with the submission of the form. The form is due Thursday, March 14, 2024, and can be accessed at the following link - https://forms.gle/Mefnc3QDhz8M3TjF8
Please note - the form should be completed by the student via their GCS Google Account. Call or email us with any questions.
