#UMNMCH student Cara Carter (MPH 2022) wrote this reflection on how her coursework and deployment have bridged her pharmacy career and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) career in pregnancy hypertension and COVID-19 vaccination work.

Through the Boston University School of Public Health’s Center of Excellence in MCH, Melanie and Michaela became Practice Fellows in the Health Promotion Advocacy Program (HPAP) at Boston Medical Center’s (BMC) Pediatric Emergency Department. In this blog post, Melanie and Michaela reflect on their experience with their fellowship and how they obtained MCH knowledge and communication skills that have helped them serve their communities. “One thing we’ve been intentional about (and will continue to be) as future public health professionals and aspiring clinicians is to acknowledge the experiences our patients have faced, while in the same breath, uplifting and praising them for how far they’ve come.”

The National MCH Trainee Blog is maintained through a partnership by the HRSA-funded Center and the Center of Excellence in MCH at the University at Albany.

Grant Foundation introduces a new updated application guidelines for 2022 which details what applicants need to know to develop a strong letter of inquiry for the Foundation's research grants on reducing inequality. In addition to eligibility and application requirements, the updated guidelines provide expanded insight into current research interests and clearly lay out the review criteria for letters of inquiry.

The Office on Women’s Health (OWH) in partnership with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is seeking innovative ways to improve postpartum care for Black or African American and American Indian or Alaska Native (AI/AN) low-income beneficiaries enrolled in Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Racial Equity in Postpartum Care Challenge is the study on Innovative Methods to Improve Postpartum Care for Black or African American and American Indian/ Alaska Native Women, with an emphasis on follow-up care for conditions associated with morbidity and mortality in the later postpartum period, including diabetes, postpartum depression and/or postpartum anxiety, hypertension, and substance use disorders (SUD).
